This is a repost from 2020, but the sentiment remains the same.
Remembrance Day Poppy
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them.
Penticton has a public art walk that tends to receive additions every year. One of this year’s is of a playful little dachshund who (as is their nature) will jump on anything, no matter how unbalanced.
Sculpture by Joanne Helm
The artist, Joanne Helm, not only celebrates this dachshund characteristic with a sweet and whimsical sculpture, but reminds us that we could all do with a little joyful unbalance in our lives, with living in the moment just for the sheer fun of it.
I am on my way back to NWT after two weeks in the Okanagan; I am leaving M to finish up all the packing as we sold our strata and bought a new home at the north end of Penticton near Lake Okanagan. He’s very organised about it all and will be ready to go when the movers arrive in eleven days but it’s too bad that I can’t be with him to help out with this part. When I come back to Penticton for winter break, it will be to a new address. But in the meantime, a few more Okanagan views.
The trees are blowing their summer coats! Leaves finding their way into Lake Okanagan. No more swimming until next spring. One more late rose.
I love this trail above Penticton that looks down on Lake Okanagan, and to the south, Skaha Lake.

I’ve hiked this trail countless times and have probably stopped to admire this view at every opportunity. I have taken multiple photos during these stops and at every time of year.

Here it is in its full summer glory; grape vines in the foreground, lakes and hills in the background.

Just beginning to wake up from a winter sleep. Although this was a lovely warm day, you can see that there’s still a little snow in the opposite hills at the higher elevations.

Shhh. Everyone is sleeping.
No matter the season, this view is wonderful. Comforting, constantly changing in its seasonal cycle and always beautiful, it never fails to centre me, to provide me with serenity.
I forgot that it was my anniversary. For the most part, blogging has been fun and I have “met” many great people, some of whom I feel as if I know.
A flower from my M.
Unfortunately, only a very few of the bloggers that I started following in those early days are still here, but others have come along, and the life wheel has continued turning.
An Okanagan willow tree.
I have also changed. I started out (very rustily) writing about narcissism, but over the years I gradually dropped it and now haven’t written about it for a long time.
Lots of other changes occurred during these years. My M and I had some significant career changes, we moved from one province to another, and I took on a last big career job in the north while maintaining our Okanagan home. M retired. We will be moving again next month, but this time, only to the other end of town. We have been busy!
Flying. It’s the best.
I will soon be retiring myself; in fact I am in my last 18 months of formal working time.
So what’s up 18 months from now? We’ll be starting work on a book about local wine, and I’ll spend some leisure time in a Cessna. It’s exciting, and I’m looking forward to the next chapters. 🙂
This sculpture of a naked, laughing youth is on Vancouver’s waterfront.
He’s definitely carefree and just enjoying life, something I could appreciate as my M and I were doing the same thing!
There is a nearby plaque that is supposed to explain the sculpture’s background, but I found it to be worded in a rather convoluted, overly arty sort of way. I took a picture of it but I’ve decided to leave it out. I think it’s better to just let the viewer do the interpreting.
Happy weekend from Vancouver’s naked laughing guy!
