More Rain!

The storm that passed a couple of days ago was quickly followed by another. I was awakened in the night to what sounded like a freight train outside my window, but turned out to be pounding rain and shrieking wind.

Earlier in the evening, I took a shot of an underlit tree with the rain pouring around it. With the addition of some soap an outside shower would have been completely possible!

On the beach, Poseidon and Triton were whipping up some oceanic discontent. We didn’t stay long and were happy to go inside before the worst came barrelling through!

Happy Monday.

Rocky Mountains – Kicking Horse Pass

I am on my way back to British Columbia from the Northwest Territories, this time via a more southerly route than the one I usually take.

Entering the Rocky Mountains through smoky skies.

Because of this extremely dry, early spring, there are ferocious wildfires in northern Alberta right now. The smoke from these fires is blanketing much of North America.

As we travelled west, the smoke over the Rockies began to decrease.

As we left the Territories, there were many evacuations and our drive through northern Alberta became rather tense when we encountered a long stretch of very dark, orange-hued, smoke-filled skies.

Although these views appear to be very smoky, this is an improvement over what we experienced in northern Alberta.

Long, gentle, soaking rains would be an excellent thing right now. Let’s hope we get some.

Prairie Storm

On our way west we encountered an enormous rain storm on the northern prairies of Alberta.

The wipers struggle to keep up.

Prairie rain storms can start and stop suddenly, and this one came to an abrupt halt.

The rain slows.

Soon we encountered clearing skies and continued our drive under clear conditions.

Climbing above the Peace River valley.

Greetings from northern Alberta.
