I am very fortunate to live near this park.

It’s one of my favourite places for a stroll or to just sit on the beach and watch the lake. It always clears my head and leaves me feeling refreshed.
Happy Wednesday. 🙂

Last Monday we arrived at home in the Okanagan after our long drive from Northwest Territories. It was so good to get here after a tough and busy time of it.

Monday greetings from Penticton and the Okanagan Valley. Have a good week. 🙂
Lovely lavender grows everywhere in the Okanagan.

The scent is carried on the breeze and these pretty green and purple bushes …

… lend lushness to parking and sidewalk planters.
Happy Friday from the lavender of the Okanagan Valley. 🙂
M and I have stayed frequently at the Overlander Hotel just outside of Jasper National Park.

We carefully observed the covid protocols and it was a lovely visit in spite of them.
Mountain greetings. 🙂
At 11 p.m, the northern sun started to sink below the horizon.

The very long daylight hours …

… make up for the long hours of darkness in December.

These are not the best quality photos as they were taken from the side window of a moving vehicle, but in this series, it’s the sky that counts.
Have a good week. 🙂
This beautiful forest lake photo …

… comes from Nova Scotia. A friend and colleague is now at his cottage at Soles Lake.
Swimming.
Me too, soon. I’m travelling to British Columbia tomorrow. 🙂
Happy weekend, everyone.
I will soon be leaving the north on a careful, hopefully covid-free, journey to my home in the Okanagan Valley.

I have been working hard and am looking forward to a little rest and relaxation.
I hope you have a good week. 🙂
I discovered a mass of late blooming wild roses …

… and decided to share their beauty once more.

Because the world …

… can always do with more wild flowers.
Happy Friday, happy weekend. 🙂
A photo …

… and a painting.

This is another photo from my lake series of last fall, with the painting based on the photo.
The painting is by local artist Wayne Keefe, and is now hanging in my office.
It helps me to centre when I have particularly busy days.
Have a good week, everyone. 🙂
The Great Slave Lake has defrosted, finally.

When I’m in the north, I live near this lake. It’s the tenth largest in the world, the deepest in North America, and has a huge impact on the weather. To some extent, it moderates, but it also causes the heavy, wet lake effect snow, too.
We had quite a warm day yesterday, but when I went walking on the lake trail, the breeze coming from it was decidedly cool. It hasn’t warmed up much yet!
The name “Slave” has nothing to do with slaves or slavery but comes from an Indigenous word, “Slavey,” and is Dene in origin. The Slavey people are distinct from the Dene, but their histories have intersected frequently.

Here is another photo of the same lake, from a similar vantage point, taken in December, 2019. I think it was about -40C.
Greetings from Great Slave Lake.
Have a good week. 🙂
