Toronto Tower

For 32 years ending in 2007, the iconic Toronto tower was the world’s tallest freestanding structure until it was displaced by the Burj Khalifa, a skyscraper  in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

M and I have both been at the top of the tower before – as you can imagine, it has spectacular views of the city and Lake Ontario – but we felt that we didn’t need to go again. Do you see the moon to the left of the tower, above its viewing deck?

Instead, we enjoyed it from the rooftop patio of an adjacent hotel which itself provided beautiful city and lake views. Here’s one of the Skydome, where we had just watched a Blue Jays baseball game.

It was a beautifully warm, clear day, great for looking at the lay of the land!

Snow Melt

It’s nice to see the bright green winter moss and to also hear the gurgling snow melt water.

We have had a lot of rain which has made quick work of the frozen stuff, and it’s beginning to feel a teeny bit like spring might be on the way.

There’s a little snow at the higher elevations, but that won’t last long either.

Snowpiles

It has warmed up and as a result an enormous amount of snow came down, so very unusually, it’s piled up everywhere in Penticton.

This is a parking lot pile, but the size of it is very unusual.

Because it’s slick, people are not coping well and drivers, in particular, are having issues. That winter driving gene can atrophy badly if it’s not used regularly, unfortunately. These snow piles aren’t what I want to see, though.

This view from a walk of a few days ago is much better. But what will work really well is when I get to see this:

Hello Rockies; Hello Home

As we returned to British Columbia from our holiday, we had beautiful weather over the Rocky Mountains before arriving in the Okanagan Valley. It’s not often that such clear weather occurs in December over the mountains, so I felt lucky to see this fantastic sight.

Taking the Long View

From a trail above Okanagan Lake there are many lovely views.

We like to hike this trail a lot.

This was a beautiful day unaffected at that time by a large fire to the south of us in Washington.

The blaze crossed the border and has caused some local smoke; we understand that headway has been made by the hardworking firefighting crews, however.
