Today is the first day of autumn so unfortunately, summer is officially over. It’s also a Monday though and because of that I hope these late summer scenes ease you through yet another weekly start.

It was a rather rainy month but we definitely had some beautiful colours to admire, if only for a short time. Here’s a selection.
The beauties of autumn are mostly gone now but we’re entering a time of year for seasonal celebrations and lots of light displays. Not as good as nature’s shows but definitely also a lovely time of year.

We had some sun! The wind was rather chilly but after all these grey, rainy days, it was nice to enjoy a bit of brightness.
As we moved into the afternoon the sun started to disappear behind some cloud, but my, it was a terrific little break!

To Market, To Market, to Eat Like a …

We’re deep into November now and have entered the rainy season. If the weather sticks to its usual patterns, we will have a lot of rain and cloud for about the next two months.
We still have a little colour around that’s breaking up the grey motif, but probably not for long. Soon we will rely on seasonal light displays and plants such as poinsettias to bring us some relief.
The lace leaf maples are beginning to turn purple – the colour change stage they enter before dropping their leaves – and a light rain accompanies almost every step we take.
Lots of bushes and trees will retain a duller shade of green as they rest through the winter until they’re ready to once more provide us with their beauties.

It’s unfortunately come to that time of year where there aren’t many blooms about, but I did find a few for today’s flower post.
These will probably be my last flower finds for this year, so for the foreseeable future I’ll probably be posting pictures from the warmer months or whatever else I can find to brighten our Fridays.

This sweet little duck seems to be wondering if there are some yummy bugs hiding under those leaves.
She wouldn’t be wrong since the rain has brought out quite a few worms. (I’m not including a worm photo because, well, I don’t want to.)
I hope she found some good ones but I wasn’t going to stick around to watch her eat lunch. I’m not really a fan of squishy things. Ugh.

About ten days ago, we were enjoying a very serene, lovely autumn, even the wind was resting …
… and the ducks were contentedly paddling along …
… the sun was warm but there was also an invigoratingly cool suggestion in the air, like momentarily seeing your breath above a glass of ice water.
Warm, beautiful colours abounded, but then …
… a seasonal switch was flipped and we headed into late autumn or more likely, early winter.
We are turning with the sun while everything rests, but we will be ready when spring arrives again.

Amazingly there are still quite a number of hydrangeas about although most have packed it up for the year and are headed into their seasonal rest.
They will soon be gone but will start returning in early spring. Looking forward to it.
