Me and My Friends

Who says that it’s only birds of a feather that flock together? You can definitely flock with scales, too …

We have some trouble communicating but we still understand each other …

… because when the humans are dispensing food, it’s always a great idea to bring your best friends along to share the wealth. More friends, more food, especially if you look cute and needy, something that’s a bit difficult for a fish …

… but we know that sharing with our underwater, scaled friends is a good thing. They would do the same for us!

Happy Sunday.

August 30’s Friday Fleurday

Although we’re heading into September, there are still many, many late bloomers providing beauty, colour and scent. Here are some highlights from this week’s flower lovelies.

Panicled hydrangeas. I love the little floof that develops at the end of each cluster.
The asters are beautiful right now.
Japanese anemones are so seemingly delicate but are actually quite hardy (for this zone).
White and red pond lilies. Floating flowers – how wonderful is that?
And last but not least, the Penticton Rose Garden has been busily producing wonderful blooms since spring. Here’s a pretty pink one.

Happy long weekend.

Beautiful Day

We have had a few days of cooler temperatures but are now climbing back up there. But before it became too hot again – we’re expecting low 30s (about 88F) – we spent the day outside in the not-too-hot sun, walking and eating a late lunch.

Walking the beach at Skaha Lake …
… lunch at Skaha Lake marina …
… with a nice little wine.

We had a great day.

Signs of Autumn

It has been cooler over the last few days, with highs around 20C (68F) or so. It has been a nice break from months of high temperatures. But there’s been some wind, too, and it has a decidedly autumnal feel to it. There were even wind-driven whitecaps on the lake.

Temperatures are supposed to go back to 29-30C (84-86F) by Thursday or Friday and those might be our last warm days before the descent into autumn.

Although it was cooler and the wind was definitely brisk, there were a few people still taking pleasure from the beach. Seated in lawn chairs and wearing light jackets, the weather wasn’t going to stop them from enjoying the views over the lake.

Happy Wednesday.
