Cathy at Words and Herbs had the great idea of posting a “week of flowers” to help chase away the winter blahs. My contribution for today are pictures of some late summer pond lilies from our Japanese garden.

And a closer view …

Happy flowers week.

Happy flowers week.
This post is inspired by Cathy at Words and Herbs to help chase away the winter blahs.
I love hydrangeas, including the panicle hydrangeas that bloom toward the end of summer.

Hydrangea colours are always interesting, but over the life of the blooms this variegated variety will eventually become more uniform.

I like how each frond is made up of tiny blooms.

Summer will return, but in the meantime we have great pictures!
Thanks for the terrific idea, Cathy.

An ancient mangrove root lies helpless next to a forest path …

… its exterior weathered and knobbed and twisted, seemingly discarded …

… but it will become an orchid nursery …

… helping the little ones to grow and shine; age and beauty entwined.
Flowers in the tropics are always so colourful, bright and over-the-top. Here are a selection.

When summer meets autumn
“When summer meets autumn” is a perfect title for this set of late-blooming rose photos from Katarina Bodovski. There are many more very beautiful photos on Katarina’s photo-blog.
Even though we recently had our first frost, the dahlias have been continuing to do well.

Bright and pretty, they probably won’t last long after we have a hard frost, so I’m happy to enjoy them as much as possible before waiting until spring to see them again.

The lovely green and yellow reminds us that even through we’re transitioning to winter, the beauties of new spring life aren’t far.

Happy Sunday.
There are still lots of late bloomers around.

They’re getting lost a bit in the abundant colour show that our trees and bushes are putting on right now, but they are still pretty and lovely to see.

These flowers were in a neighbourhood garden bed, many of which still look appealing despite their seasonal decline.

Happy Wednesday.
