Bright Captures

In common with the rest of western Canada, we’ve suddenly turned colder. We’re still above 0C (32F) during the day but are going below 0 at night. Meanwhile, Vancouver, very unusually, is apparently going to get wet snow and minus temperatures overnight as well. Ugh.

Of course, here in the Okanagan Valley we have it comparatively easy. Much of the prairies are getting highs around -20C (-4 F). Strangely though, a lot of the east is coming in at +20C (68F) but may be getting much colder toward the end of the week. Nevertheless, if you’re about to travel from east to west, a 40 degree temperature difference might make for a bit of a packing challenge – such wild weather!

So to take our minds off these bizarre differences, I thought we could do with some brighter pictures of what is to come.

Nuthatch cuteness.
Eagle magnificence.
A butterfly tea rose.
A sunflower with friend.
Southern sunset beauty.

Happy Tuesday.

Retrospective

As we prepare to leave the Caribbean to return to a very rainy Okanagan Valley via an apparently also rainy Toronto, here are a few favourite photos.

Underlit trees.
Herons of a feather flock together!
I don’t know what type of butterfly this is, but it’s beautiful.

Happy Tuesday. I’ll soon be posting from home.

Tropical Butterfly

I saw this lovely flutterer while out walking.

I tried to find out what type of butterfly this is – it bears some resemblance to a white monarch – but I’m not sure and to me there seem to be differences.

Regardless of its type, it sure is beautiful. I followed it around for a bit, trying to get photos as it went about its nectar-collecting day; it was so lovely to see.

Happy Saturday.

Day and Night

The sky here in the Caribbean is bright blue and contrasts intensely with the lush green of the trees.

Night descends quickly and firmly; twilight doesn’t last long.

Sometimes it catches a fritillary butterfly unawares, seized in the efficient arrival of a confusing artificial light.

I carefully moved this sleepy little one to a nearby tree that was in the shadows.

Happy Wednesday.
