Hope …

… for the very, very beginning of spring?

Fingers crossed! And although I know that February can be temperamental, I take encouragement from the fact that temperatures are up, the wind is down, and the ice encrustments?

Those are starting to melt.

To everyone who lately experienced those huge snowfalls and wicked temperatures, I wish you very prompt blue skies and controlled – because of all that snow – meltings.

Happy Sunday.

Autumn Sun

It has cooled off but we are still getting very comfortable daytime temperatures of 23C or so (73F).

As autumn settles into itself, sitting in the sun is very pleasant, almost somnolent.

Best of all, it’s cooling at night to very nice sleeping temperatures. Opening a window for fresh evening air is such a small but lovely perk.

Happy weekend.

Sunny Afternoon

A couple of days ago, the fog lifted and we were rewarded with a beautiful sunny afternoon.

We decided to go to Skaha Lake at the southern tip of Penticton to enjoy the weather with a walk.

The esplanade was filled with children, dogs, families, young lovers, seniors; everyone, it seems, was enjoying what felt like a genuine spring afternoon.

We had about 14C (57F), no wind and a gentle sun. It was great to loaf along watching dogs and children run around while adults smiled and chatted and enjoyed a relaxing afternoon.

This beach will soon be busy with swimmers, dragon boats, sailors, sand castle builders, picnickers and kite surfers. Hooray for spring!

Roof Glacier Update

My roof glacier has melted a lot!

March 13
March 16
March 17 – disappearing in the sun.

In the night I was awakened by a thunk but couldn’t find anything amiss inside. Then I realized that some of the roof glacier had probably fallen; in the morning I saw some snowfall underneath the glacier. Between the melting and the falling, I don’t think it’s going to last long!

Happy Saturday.
