Reblog: The Survivors

We finally have some rain. It is supposed to continue through the night. It has been a long dry summer with only a couple of short showers to get us …

August 22’s Friday Fleurday

In this hemisphere summer is starting its slow slide toward autumn. Although the temperatures are still high and lots of people are on holidays, the angle of the sun and the shorter days are highlighting the age of the season. I’m also starting to see it in the types of flowers that prefer this time of year.

Yellow coneflowers (with some barberry in the background that’s beginning to turn red) …

… and mountain hydrangeas are obvious examples …

… but so are these pretty pink roses; they definitely have a late season look about them.

Happy Friday.

Wine Time

We visited a favourite winery for lunch.

It has fantastic views of Okanagan Lake from its perch high above on the western side …

… and an excellent restaurant with, of course, excellent wine.

It was so good in fact that we had to do some walking afterwards – with lots of extra water – to make sure we were safe to drive home!

Happy Thursday.

Mallard Ducks

I like how the mallard ducks seem to get on with almost everybody.

They are tolerated by the notoriously grumpy and aggressive Canada geese …

… and by the extremely nervous quail.

But those are other birds. Nevertheless, they clearly aren’t bothered by a whole other species swimming underneath them …

… even when the fish pop up to grab a bug.

If we could all get along this well – or perhaps ignore each other this well – our world might be a very calm place.

Happy Tuesday.
