Ice Jacket

The wind-whipped lake generated enough spray to produce these icy sheaths at the bases of these old pier supports.

Although the wind has died off now and the temperature is turning around – our high today was 0C (32F) – these icy housings give me chills. Burr!

I think I’ve had enough of this now and would really like to start seeing some springy signs. How about you?

Happy Sunday.

Cold Front

We are supposed to be getting clear skies but cold temperatures over the next couple of days, the result of a so-called “polar vortex” (really? do we need to add drama to the weather? as we know, the weather is quite capable of providing its own drama without the ridiculous names). Nevertheless, and with all due respect to Shakespeare, something frigid this way comes. I saw it arriving yesterday afternoon.

The heavy valley cloud was being forced out by a very brisk, cold wind blowing out of the north that was also causing whitecaps on the lake. Brrr.

Although we still had 5C (41F) out, it really felt much, much colder, the result of that chilling wind.

Even though we are supposed to drop to about -5C (23F), an advantage is that we are supposed to get very clear, sunny days. After all the overcast that will be nice, even though the winter clothing layers will need to increase.

Happy weekend.

Pinkwrap

From time-to-time this winter we have had very lovely sunsets.

Sometimes these pink glows have been the result of a little break in the overcast during sunset …

… but at other times they have been caused by a sunny day. After a slow start, we just had one of those.

Everything was pinkwrapped, including these Canada geese who were heading for their evening roost.

Happy Wednesday.

A Sunny Day – Yay!

We just had a beautiful January day with predictions for two more of them, so we’re planning to enjoy them as much as we can.

It was definitely brisk out as it was only 3C (37F), but there was no wind and I could actually feel a bit of the sun’s power.

After lots of grey overcast and rain, some sun and blue skies are a real treat!

Happy Tuesday.
