I know that official spring has come along, but the subarctic weather up here doesn’t know that. There’s still more than enough ice and cold to go around.

Yes, spring icicles are springing up, or rather, down, everywhere.
We’re supposed to have warmish weather over the next couple of days, so these icies will grow a lot. For safety, I’ve knocked down the ones over the door and will probably have to keep doing so for a while. There’s a lot of snow on that roof!

The more southern weather may have sprung into spring, but here it is still cold enough for the ice roads to be operating.

Activities on the frozen lake are a normal component of winter life in Yellowknife.
Driving, snowmobiling, fishing and living on an ice lake are all experiences very unique to the north.
