This past weekend marks the transition into fall. And as always, I am falling for it. Sadly, it’s a short season here on the Canadian prairies but …

It’s a very bright, full moon although a very quick, cursory glance might lead you to believe that it’s the sun.

I took these pictures with my cell – a camera does a much better job with moon photography – but I like how these turned out.

A lone paddle boarder enjoys the warm evening light and comfortable temperatures at the end of the day.

The contrail of this jet on its way to Vancouver was highlighted by the setting sun, producing an unusual contrast with the sky.

We had exceptionally clear weather and were able to see the bodies of the over-passing jets, not just their vapour trails.

The Northern Lights recently paid a visit to the Okanagan Valley. I was surprised to see such bright and colourful lights this far south but the sun is coming to the end of an 11-year cycle where huge solar storms are bombarding the Earth with extreme amounts of energy that is manifesting as unusually strong, brilliant and swirling Northern Lights.

My last picture of the Aurora was taken in the Northwest Territories where they are frequently and stunningly visible, but these pink lights were a lovely southern gift.
Who needs fireworks when we have these?
