While On a Ramble …

… I saw a contemplative coot …

… a watery, cloud-veiled sun …

… quail on the run …

… and best of all, some new growth!

These are iris plants and they won’t bloom until about mid-to-late April, but they’re already peeking through. Very encouraging.

Happy Sunday.

  1. The beak of the bird gives it away, Coot! They are common here. Beautiful photos! Quail are common here too but I wonder why they choose to run when they can fly?

    1. The coots are common here, too. In summer they move up to the mountain lakes but in winter there are probably flocks of thousands of them on Okanagan Lake. This one was alone which I found unusual. Quail are such odd little birds. The ones here will fly, but only as a last resort!

      1. I see, the quail here do the same thing, I might be riding my bike and come upon a small flock of them, they move those tiny legs so fast but fly only if really needed. I suppose they will not be able to fly in time given the nature of evolution.
