Sights from a Ramble

Winter grasses bend in the wind …

… while ducks enjoy the warmer temperatures …

… and goldeneyes (bucephala clangula) relish the open water …

… in their always chic tuxedos.

Happy Thursday.

  1. Lynette, I loved the description of the Golden Eye ducks as being dressed in their tuxedo – how apt! I’ve never seen any before and they look slightly odd compared to the normal ducks. We have many of the latter in the nature reserve close to our home and this morning they were walking rather forlornly on the ice, looking rather bemused! 😀

    1. Thank you very much, Annika. 😊 These are common goldeneye ducks; there is another sub-type called Barrow’s goldeneye that also wears a tuxedo. Theirs is a bit fancier, though. 😊 Both types are found in Canada. Our mallards haven’t had much ice to contend with at all; normally we have some so I know what you mean! Agreed, they always look so forlorn.
