We’ve been experiencing some late August heat with temperatures in the 35ish range (96ish F). Usually we are more around 30ish (86ish F) at this time in August but if there’s one thing that most of us are noticing it’s that the weather patterns are wonky almost everywhere, it seems. Droughts in places that are usually wetter and rain in places that are usually drier!

Unlike my younger self, I just don’t handle heat very well any more. It’s not that my interior temperature regulator has retired, it’s more like it’s gone into a coma. I definitely get hot easily. I can also get cold easily. Ugh.

But I really don’t like to be hampered by this malfunction and so I gravitate to the shade, preferably near one of the two lakes that are nearby. The lake breezes are usually nice and the temperature probably a degree or two cooler. You can also swim in there too and that always helps, even though the lakes have warmed considerably!

In any case, these are some cooling water views that I’ve enjoyed over the last week or so. I hope you enjoy them too, especially if you need to cool off.
Happy Tuesday.
Sehr schön!

It’s the drought that comes with the heat that I don’t like, and the threat of wildfires that comes with it. Good to have the lakes nearby.

Definitely. I’m concerned about the bone dry, high winds that have come along with this heat, though. It doesn’t take many days of those to make everything crispy so I hope there’s enough soil moisture to forestall any fires.

We have a lot of dry trees around us and many people who stroll through here as if it were a park (which it is not).

Wow, Anneli. That’s nerve-wracking. You never know what they’re doing (and what are they doing there anyway?) that might cause a fire. Ugh.
LikeLiked by 1 person
Yes, it does make me nervous. A lot of foot traffic. One year I had to call out to a fellow who was just looking for a quiet place to smoke a joint. I told him I didn’t care what he was smoking but that I was worried about fire. He was all apologetic and didn’t come back again. He so easily could have burned down the neighborhood.

Wow. That’s pretty bold, but at least he understood and left. People just don’t stop to think about it and the extent of the dryness. The fire that started near Peachland a couple of weeks back was caused by someone working on a car engine. It was headed toward being a bad one but we fortunately got rain.

Gorgeous!! I love that you converted the ish in your temperatures 😊 We missed Calgary’s unusually wet summer, but are finding its remnants everywhere. Many of our mountain bike trails are so wet and muddy they are unrideable. We never see that here. Maggie

Thank you very much, Maggie. The ish is so accurate and scientific. 😉 A close friend moved to Calgary from Yukon in July and expected better weather but the first six weeks were pretty wet! He’s enjoying it there but it looks like another move is coming. I used to live in Alberta (in Medicine Hat) and agreed, southern Alberta isn’t usually very wet, especially in summer.

I agree Lynette. It is all about the shade and the breeze these days. We walk in the early morning, if at all and then we hide out. It is expected to be 30C and above until this Sunday. August is going out roasty toasty. Happy shady breeze day. Allan

Thanks, Allan. It sure is, isn’t it? Through this particular heat spell even the early morning hours have been uncomfortable, I’m finding. I’m ready for cooler weather, that’s for sure. I think our temperatures are supposed to drop by Sunday or Monday, too, thankfully. Monday is Sept 1 so yes, August is definitely going out like an oven! Cheers.

35 degrees. Ug! Like you I dislike the heat. We rarely get heat like that in NS. It doesn’t have to be anywhere near that for me to be uncomfortable and useless. But I am also sensitive to the cold, usually when it is damp cold. We get a lot of that. Anyway I totally understand your current state. The comfort zone is narrow.

Yesterday it was 36. I had a couple of errands to do which meant that I had to walk outside for about 500 meters. I was sweating and panting like a marathon runner before I got back inside, and it’s not even humid. That’s just too hot. We’re supposed to have temperatures more around 30 by Sunday. Fingers crossed. NS summers would probably have more comfortable temperatures for me, at least for now (I’m not kidding myself – I’m sure this is going to get worse as I age!). Yes, the comfort zone is narrow. Cheers.

It’s mid-80s here in California, but I know it’s going to heat up.

When it does, stay cool Jacqui, and I hope you don’t get any fires.

Wow, you live in a very beautiful place, Lynette! The lake and mountains are very beautiful. I see that you speak a different language.

Yes, this region is very pretty (and popular with tourists, too). We’re in a valley between two mountain ranges, so it’s rather wonderful. Actually, I speak three. I was raised in a French/English household and environment but the language above is German which I learned when I lived there. Cheers.

Oh, neat! I’m strictly English. 😂 Do Americans visit your region?

We get quite a few visitors from Alaska, Washington state, Oregon and California and to a lesser extent from quite a few other states as well. The scenery, hiking, wine and beaches are attractive in the summer and the skiing in the winter. 😊

Wow, that’s great, I hope that stupid Trump tariff isn’t affecting your tourism, Lynette.

It’s not affecting ours but is affecting yours, though. Most Canadians are boycotting U.S. visits and a lot of your tourist focussed businesses are feeling it. We’re getting a lot of ads from various U.S. locations asking us to return. Unfortunately we won’t be especially as Trump’s latest threat to annex us wasn’t long ago so it’s still pretty fresh in people’s memories. We know that many Americans disagree with him on this but we have to do what we have to do …

I understand, and would probably take the same stand if I were a Canadian citizen, Lynette. I hope Trump meant the Annex thing as a joke! It’s so absolutely vile to say that! Canada is a Sovereign country! 🇨🇦❤️🇨🇦

We’ve had a late summer temperature surge here as well. It’s been in the high 90s F (36ish C) for the past five days. Climate change is alive and well. Spectacular photos as usual, Lynette.

Thank you very much, Tricia. 😊 This heat wave seems to be all up and down the west coast. I understand that it’s supposed to taper off by Sunday. Yesterday we had 36 also and I had to do a bit of walking in it at about 1:00 p.m. After 500 metres to get back inside I felt like I had been through a marathon. That’s just too hot for me now!

I seriously just want to dive into that lake!! I’m okay with those temperatures as long as I’m near water. In my house at night trying to sleep when it’s 30, that’s a no.

Both lakes are very inviting, no question! I used to handle 30+ and even higher quite easily when I was younger but that capacity has definitely left the building. Being near water certainly helps, though. I agree – trying to sleep through 30-whatever isn’t going to happen for me, either.

Like you I don’t do heat well, so I relate to everything you’re saying. Here’s to water, shade, and cooling breezes.

I couldn’t agree more, Penny. Water, shade and cooling breezes. Yesterday we had 36 and I unfortunately had to go out at the height of it to do a couple of errands. I almost melted. Ugh.

We’ve been a bit cooler over the last couple of days due to some cloud cover but we’re expecting 30s again (with up to 35, 36) on the weekend. Definitely fierce!

Thank you very much. 😊 I think the entire coast and all the way to Winnipeg is experiencing some rather late, hot weather! I hope you get a chance to see B.C. again soon. Cheers.

LOL.. I literally just wrote the same thing about my heat regulation in a comment to you!! I like knowing I’m not alone!!
Ages ago, I read something that predicted global weather patterns would eventually shift, turning N America to desert and Africa into a paradise. It definitely seems like that’s happening before our eyes (and sweaty bodies)!

Yes, I’ve responded to you there. 😊 You’re certainly not alone.
I seem to recall reading something similar a long time ago.

Hello Fab Four, I’m definitely not enjoying this late season heatwave. I’ll be happy to just see the weather turn it down to more comfortable settings, but a bit of invigorating coolness wouldn’t be remiss right now either! Cheers.

These things change without warning as we get older. I’ve had a complete reversal….for most of my life I’ve loved being cold (fresh air fiend and all that) and struggled in the heat. Now it’s the complete opposite, first to feel the cold and enjoy the heat!

Wow – yours went the other way! I agree, this came on me with little lead-in or warning. I used to love the heat and always soaked it up come summer but now I’m extremely heat sensitive. During your “cold years” you would have loved northern Canada!

You’re absolutely right how the weather has been wonky. It’s been unseasonably chilly in southern Ontario these past couple of weeks. No complaints as I’m actually enjoying the cooler weather. I too don’t handle the heat very well. We’ve had our windows open and it’s been lovely.

How nice – open windows! It’s going to be a while before we can do that. We are still getting 30-35 which was supposed to end this weekend but is going to be with us until next Saturday for sure. I would be happy to have some cooler temperatures for sure. Cheers.
