When the mercury reaches 38° (100.4 F) and everything drowses in the windless heat …

… a little shade near some water …

… is a wonderful thing …

… a chance to enjoy summer’s slow stillness …

… before autumn comes upon us.
Happy Monday.

As I found from visiting the Okanagan in summer, shade is required for my survival. The views are always better from a shady spot and these views are perfect for summer. Happy Monday Lynette. Allan

Thank you very much, Allan. Shade is definitely a survival requirement, even if you’re standing the lake! The heat we’re getting right now usually appears about two weeks earlier than this, but I hope it doesn’t last long. Environment Canada says it will be over by Friday and I hope they’re right.

I really like your first photo, it catches the stillness of an August day. A fine set!

Thank you very much, Belinda. 😊 This type of heat definitely has a very August-like signature.

The creek is always cooling, even if it might only be psychological sometimes.

I agree, Anneli. Just the idea of being near some water seems to help a lot, although I’ve been finding myself hiding in the ac except for early mornings!

I don’t do very well in the heat any more, either. This has felt like an oven!

Dear Lynette
We hope that autumn will come soon. We had enough heat and sun.
Nevertheless, we like your pictures.

Hi Fab Four, thank you very much. A couple of weeks of very high temperatures is normal for this area at the end of July/beginning of August, but this year it’s late. We should be cooling off. Climate change. Ugh.

You definitely need to find somewhere cool (and preferably close to water) in those temperatures!

Except for early morning walks, I’ve been hiding inside in the ac although standing in the lake would be good, too!

It sure does, doesn’t it? Even the just the idea of it.

And I usually prefer the mountain stream or lake over the ocean, but both work.

Yes, for sure, especially when it’s 35° out!

We usually have a couple of weeks of this earlier in the summer, so this is definitely late. Climate change. Ugh.

Agreed, some shade is a wonderful (and necessary) thing in the heat!

Definitely. I actually don’t handle the heat particularly well any more so it’s often important for me to find some (or hang out in the ac!). Cheers.
