Some of the magnolia trees have started to bloom.

They are a startling study in contrasts with their large, grandiose and beautifully fragrant blooms against a background of bare greyish-brown branches, gloriously emerging from their fuzzy capsules like petalled butterflies.

I could smell the scent from this small tree about half a block away and was so delighted to see it.

Magnolia blooms only last about a week so they have to be enjoyed in the fleeting moment.
Happy Tuesday.
If only they would last a bit longer huh…..so susceptible to wind…

I agree, Phil, and yes, they don’t do well in the wind. The day after I took these photos we had a strong wind come through and that tree lost all its opened blooms. They definitely don’t last long.

Lovely pics, Lynette! One of my favourite flowers, we have a huge magnolia in our back garden, all bloomed out for now!

Thank you very much, Andy. How fantastic that you have a huge one in your garden! Please post some photos of it come springtime. 🌸

Thanks Lynette, and will aim for a magnolia show and tell later in the year!

Magnolias are so gorgeous and are actually very ancient, too; they are part of the fossil record.

Thank you, Allan. They sure are; beautiful. Are you visiting Vancouver and Victoria soon? Spring in those cities is just so lovely.

Just arrived in Victoria. It is green, not white.

So pretty, such a shame they don’t last very long. Maggie

Thanks, Belinda. Oh boy. Another storm? You’ve had more than your share this winter. I hope you start getting some spring soon. 🌸

Aren’t they lovely? We have had a lot of windy weather lately so I imagine a lot of petals are on the floor.

Oh yes, they are so beautiful. The day after I took the photos of this tree we had a strong wind come through sending the petals of the open blossoms flying. There were quite a few buds left but in this case many of the flowers didn’t last long at all.

Such a beautiful burst of colour, even if it’s short-lived. It’s the same with cherry blossoms and many other spring flowers. Enjoy them while they’re here.

I love magnolias; they’re so beautiful, but the day after I took these photos the wind came up and all the opened blossoms were quickly gone. The buds of the unopened ones were still there, but there weren’t many of those left. Exactly; enjoy them while they’re here!
