Magnolia Beauty

Some of the magnolia trees have started to bloom.

They are a startling study in contrasts with their large, grandiose and beautifully fragrant blooms against a background of bare greyish-brown branches, gloriously emerging from their fuzzy capsules like petalled butterflies.

I could smell the scent from this small tree about half a block away and was so delighted to see it.

Magnolia blooms only last about a week so they have to be enjoyed in the fleeting moment.

Happy Tuesday.

    1. I agree, Phil, and yes, they don’t do well in the wind. The day after I took these photos we had a strong wind come through and that tree lost all its opened blooms. They definitely don’t last long.

    1. Oh yes, they are so beautiful. The day after I took the photos of this tree we had a strong wind come through sending the petals of the open blossoms flying. There were quite a few buds left but in this case many of the flowers didn’t last long at all.

    1. I love magnolias; they’re so beautiful, but the day after I took these photos the wind came up and all the opened blossoms were quickly gone. The buds of the unopened ones were still there, but there weren’t many of those left. Exactly; enjoy them while they’re here!
