January Sun

We were supposed to get some serious overcast accompanied by wet snow over the last few days, but apart from the cloud cover …

… we escaped. We had rain, but it never did get cold enough for any kind of snow.

And then we got this lovely little gift …

… clearing skies and sunshine …

… along with these cute deer who were also enjoying the weather break by lounging in a neighbour’s yard.

Happy Monday.

  1. I love the detail in the water with the sunset, but I have to say that mountain shot is my favorite. Some perfect palettes with the electric blue and blue-grey. Always a pleasure to look at these!

    1. Thanks, Allan. Sorry to hear that you aren’t getting much sun. When I lived in Alberta, it was always such a winter bonus: cold out, but usually sunny. Climate change is doing all sorts of weird things.

    1. Thank you very much. Wow! Stay warm! How lovely that you’re feeding the deer, especially if you’re getting unusually bad weather. They might be struggling.
I watched these deer earlier in the day. They found something yummy to eat in the neighbour’s yard (he’s away) and were grazing for a long time before deciding to take a nap. They seem healthy and well-fed, too, which may be because they’re spending the winter in the valley bottom where food is more easily found.

      1. We also feed birds, squirrels, a bunny or two, some foxes, possums, some raccoons & an occasional ground hog. We were feeding a sickly red fox but, it died three days after it showed up. Our neighbor said it had been poisoned. It was pitiful. He buried it on his ranch. I cried.

    1. Thank you very much. After a very, very grey period, we finally have a bit of sun – so welcome! We have snow on the ski hills where it belongs, thankfully. I hope your panic resolves itself soon!

    1. You’re very welcome. I used to live in southern Alberta and loved the winter sun that we had, even when it was extremely cold out. It’s definitely rare here, so it has to be enjoyed when we get some!

    1. It has been so sunless and with such a deep overcast that it was really terrific to get the clearing, bright skies! I awoke to a smattering of snow this morning but it’s already disappearing since our high today is 4. Have fun with your snow – Baby M will soon be able to enjoy it, too!
