Windy and Wet

Over the last couple of days it was intermittently windy and raining.

The gulls were huddling near the shore; it wasn’t a great day for flying.
And although it was very grey, this was offset by some great autumn colours.
Orange, red and yellow leaf litter.
A red lace maple next to a green autumn rhododendron.
A transitioning maple tree.
A view from our deck, pretty nice despite the rain and overcast.
And last but not least, another lace maple with its gorgeous fire engine red fronds.

Happy Wednesday.

  1. Even on a grey day, autumn brings colour to the party. Leaves have been flying and trees blwoing down in the high winds. Winter is coming. Happy Wednesday Lynette. Allan

    1. We still have quite a lot of colour which is a great thing – at least temporarily – while our daily hours of sun dip ever lower and lower. Are you still in Vancouver? It’s getting some real corkers and we’re getting the remains of them as they loop into our area. They’re quite worn down by the time they arrive here, though, so usually we just get the rain and overcast. Today the ceiling is only about 600 m or so. Very grey.

    1. Thank you very much. 😊 I agree, Belinda, and we are definitely getting some major overcast today, too. The thermometer says that it’s 8 out, but it feels much colder. I’ve taken some pictures today of the cloud cover; it can’t be more than about 500-600m above ground, so it’s quite grey. Cheers.

  2. The strong winds are my least favourite part about the fall. Glad to hear you’re getting more rain though. Lace leaf maples are gorgeous. We have a mature one in our front yard that always looks so stunning in the fall when it changes from green to crimson.

    1. I agree, those lace leaf maples are such a brilliant shade of red in autumn, especially in the sun. How great that you have one in your yard! The wind isn’t my favourite either but at the moment seems to be part of a package with the rain, so we’ll take it. We’re definitely getting better precipitation!
