I recently saw this pair of mallard ducks in a small pond. They were alone and seemingly investigating the edge of the shore, possibly looking for a good nesting site.
Seeing them pair off and start looking for nesting spots is a very good sign of spring.
A nicely hidden space among the long grasses from last summer might do very nicely for a little family.
Going forward I’ll be keeping out an eye out for them. I hope they find a nice, secure spot.

Very true. I am reminded that at one point, I bought a house for us that M had only seen in pictures and video, and a few years later, he bought our present home that I had only seen in pictures and video (but I had all the specs, floor plan and architectural drawings and knew the street and site well, though). Both times we got the right one, so sometimes it’s a matter of knowing each other well. 😊

Awww. Well then, that’s a good reason to keep posting about them. Everyone needs a little mallard in their lives, even if it’s only vicariously. 😊

I hope to keep track of them and their little ones, which is much better than keeping track of the snow ridge on the eaves of my house when I lived in the north last winter. 😊
