The blue hour occurs when the sun is lower than the horizon, allowing its blue wavelengths to become visually dominant.

Recently, I was out at just the right time to capture this phenomenon.

Although I was able to see the blue light, the camera’s lens saw it much better than I did and captured these beautiful cobalt blue skies.
Happy Monday.
Wow, what brilliant blues.

Yes, I sure was, Neil. With all the cloud about, January sunsets are very obscured, but there was enough clearing to allow the blue wavelengths to be visible. Cheers.

Always nice to capture the lights on the water, before it gets too dark. Happy Monday Lynette. Allan

Thank you, Allan.
I’ve always liked those reflective pictures as well, especially when it’s hard to tell the difference! Cheers.

I didn’t know about the blue hour. I’ve seen the green flash in FL when the sun sets, but this is a new cool thing to know about.

I haven’t captured the green flash yet although I’ve seen it. You have to be ready, waiting and quick for that phenomenon! The blue hour is much easier to photograph if it’s clear enough. It occurs twice a day (sunrise and sunset) except near the poles because of polar night and midnight sun. I wasn’t expecting this degree of blue from the photos but I love the effect. Cheers.

Yes, this particular blue hour was quite spectacular, I think because there may have been some reflection from the remaining cloud.

My mother used that phrase, all those many decades ago. Thank you for adding science to the nostalgia! (And thank you for more blue-hour photos…)

You’re very welcome, Penny. I didn’t know that that phrase was used back then, so thanks to you, too.

The sky actually looked like that; I didn’t use any filters. I was surprised by how very blue the sky is in these photos.

Oh yes it didn’t look like any filters were used. It looked like the blue colour was spilling out of the canvas. It’s so beautiful 🤩
