Okanagan Lake is a little frosty around the edges.

But it’s sunny and we’re warming up; we’re about 12°C warmer than we were on Saturday.
Happy Wednesday.

The picture belies the frosty part but showcases the sunny and warmer part. We got about 4″ yesterday and may get a bit more later in the week. Currently a balmy 19°F. It’s starting to look and feel a bit like Winter around here. 🙂

The foreground shows frozen lake water with some snow on top, but yes, I wanted to emphasise the juxtaposition of the sun. I read that eastern Canada and U.S. is getting walloped by some rather large winter storms. Stay warm. 🙂

A beautiful shot Lynette. Amazing how a bit of sunshine can make a frosty day look warm. Happy Wednesday. Allan

Thank you very much, Allan. It’s been great to least see the sun during this nasty weather spell. Cheers.

My region probably is colder today than yours, which might not be the case too often.

I looked up the average temperatures for January and we’re usually a bit warmer (we’re in a very deep valley between mountain ranges which will moderate weather a lot). Ours is a low of -4C (25F) and high of 1C (34F) while yours – I looked up Chicago – is a low of -6C (21F) and high of 0C (32F). If I was still in the subarctic north the difference would huge! Cheers.

Hi. You put me in the wrong city! I live just outside of Philadelphia. Chicago is a good place, but its winters often are pretty brutal. Take care. Enjoy the day.

My apologies, Neil! I’m going to put that down to my ageing brain (that’s my story and I’m sticking to it). It’s clear I should have confirmed your location too. 🙂 In that case, you are definitely warmer. 😉

Does your lake ever freeze over? I know Lake Erie in our Great Lakes does occasionally (2022) but it is shallower than the others.

Not in recorded history. The ice around the edges is very thin right now, too, and we’ve already had a couple of people fall through (they and their dog were safely rescued). Okanagan Lake is classified as a fjord lake, so at 232m (761 ft), it’s pretty deep. Wow – I didn’t realise that Lake Erie will freeze over.

We’re finally enjoying some sunshine as well. But it’s quite chilly outside. I saw on the news that BC is expecting a snow storm tonight.

A huge low from over the Pacific arrived last night and is dropping mega-snow on Vancouver – 30 cm expected. The temperature is at zero too so you can imagine how sloppy and wet it is. We have snow here too but it’s much lighter because it was forced up over the coastal mountains. Driving in the lower mainland or in the mountains isn’t recommended today! Glad that you’re getting some sun. 🌞

I’m “a little frosty around the edges myself” — especially when I’m in a bad mood! 😀

Hahaha. 😁 I’ve been known to get that way myself!

The water colour is almost lavender. Very pretty. Wouldn’t want to go for a dip in there today though.

Yes, the lake was a great colour that day, but definitely no dipping! There were a lot of people doing that on NewYear’s Day though. Cold water dips are supposed to be really good for you but not my thing.

Not mine either. It’s a wonder more people don’t give themselves a heart attack from the shock.

I agree, Anneli. There’s no way I would be giving myself the cold plunge treatment!

So pretty! Glad it’s warming up there. I think the cold headed east 😏

Thanks Belinda. 🙂
Could be. Vancouver and the southern mainland are getting another big snow storm which has reached as far as us, too. Definitely warmer but I could do without the snow.

Thanks, Cindy. We have warmed up a lot; the cold snap was short, thankfully.
