Two enormous storms are sweeping across the Pacific and are hitting British Columbia’s northern coast, Vancouver Island and lower mainland with a huge force of wind and rain. They are even reaching into the interior. At the higher elevations, the rain is actually snow, and it is coming down in huge amounts. Here in our deep valley, we are seemingly escaping the worst of it, but we did get a little snow yesterday.

Once there’s snow, our resident duck flock is more reliant on food provided for them and as soon as they saw us heading their way, they lost no time in mobbing my M who started scattering some yummies for them.

It doesn’t take long for them to devour a large bag of quinoa, especially when it’s cold.

We did get some snow collection over night but much of it melted today.
Happy Wednesday.
Beautiful 😍

They have arrived and there’s lots of wind and rain or snow, but we’re escaping the worst here in the valley. Cheers.

Hopefully the stormy weather subsides soon to reveal warmth of the sun.
P.S.- It’s the beautiful, valiant ducks yet again 🤩
They always look lost so deep in their conversations.

We’ll just have to wait this one out. There have been some dire predictions for our area but so far, we have mostly escaped.
Glad you like the ducks. 😊 They’re basically the city pets. I agree – they do look like they’re solving the world’s issues – or maybe just duck issues. 😉 Cheers.

The ducks do not look amused by the sudden turn of events. We go about 8 cm here yesterday. Hard to believe it was 2 months later than the usual. A shoveling we will go. Happy Wednesday Lynette. Allan

8 cm! That’s great! I hope you get more, Allan. The shovelling is a pain, but such is life in a snow zone.
No, the ducks aren’t amused. They’re actually quite anxious. I saw that the city had been out to give them some feed (I could see the tracks from their little spreader) and they had eaten everything. But I guess when there’s not a bug to be found and you’re a duck, you’re likely going to worry about your next meal. Cheers.

I’ve heard about the storm there from friends and family; sounds intense. Western WA even had (or has) a blizzard warning; crazy! The ducks certainly look assertive! Lovely photos.

Thanks, Tricia.
The storm hitting southern BC and Washington is pretty bad. I think there’s another one coming toward the California coast as well. The predictions for here are dire but then they get revised down. So far, we are escaping the worst of it.
The ducks were definitely not going to miss the chance! The city had already fed them but I think they get really anxious when there’s snow on the ground.

We’re keeping in touch with family and friends in Seattle, Portland, and San Diego to get updates. I hope you stay safe and warm too.

When snow is here today, gone tomorrow….
Parting is, indeed, such sweet sorrow?

Hahaha. 😊 Very apt, mistermuse. No sorrow over here. I’ve already had more than my share of snow!

The creek sure looks pretty with snow, but I’m sure every bird or other animal wishes for spring instead.

I agree, Anneli, and I, and they, could do without it. We had sun today and I saw a flock of geese out enjoying it, but with the weather prognosticators saying that we’re going to get -10 by Friday, I worry about how well they will fare.

We’re heading into a nose dive of Arctic weather starting tonight. It’s going to be brutal.

We’re supposed to get cold weather by Friday, too. Yup, brutal. They’re calling for -15 here. I thought I left behind anything lower than -10. Ugh.

You’ll breeze through it. The only one in your crowd to put a brave face on it.

Thanks Anneli. If it happens, we just have to soldier through … 🙂

Oh, goodness! Adorable ducks.
We haven’t gotten any snow but, we were hit with the big storm, moving across the South/East. Have mercy.

They are very cute and really are the city pets; in fact the city feeds them when there’s snow on the ground.
I heard about that storm – really a bad one. It came up the eastern seaboard and still had enough power left to wallop a couple of the eastern provinces. Yes – have mercy.

Hey, quit sending that stuff our way. It’s coming down as snow here. We had such a mild winter through December. No snow at Christmas. January hit and we’re getting socked. Next week temps are going to drop to frigid, dangerous numbers. Only three more months to spring.
BTW, that’s a lotta ducks. Nice photos, too. Looks like you’re enjoying the milder weather in your “new” residence.

Hi Lori, good to see you! Happy New Year. 😊
We have been really mild as well right up until recently, but in this valley that’s normal. We’re supposed to get cold temperatures by Friday; apparently down unusually low also. 🥶 Sorry, it’s coming from further north than I am now – more like the Arctic Circle up around Tuktoyaktuk (a real place: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tuktoyaktuk).
The ducks are the community pets. The city (and everyone else) feeds them, especially if there’s a bit of snow! We now carry cooked quinoa with us all the time. We are definitely enjoying the warmer weather, Lori. We’ve had a lot of rain for the last month and I haven’t minded at all. Cheers. 🙂

Looks like you’d need a lot of quinoa to feed all those ducks!

We emptied a bread bag filled with it, but yes, there are a lot of them! The ducks aren’t going to starve though because the city provides feed for them when it’s cold out.
