The ducks are happy again! Their favourite creek is now flowing at its normal levels, they have mated and moulted, and the rest of their summer will be pretty easy. The photo above shows male ducks; that’s because the mums have all the young ones down by the lake to hang out with the geese.
The dads get to kick back in and next to the creek, recovering from their recent moult.

This is the male half of the resident year-round duck flock. I love watching them and checking up on what they’re doing. Cheers.

Thank you, Sue. People like to feed the ducks and the pigeons cash in too, but I’ve noticed that the ducks also get on fairly well with the Canada geese who are notoriously bad-tempered!

They love their spot near the creek and everyone likes them, especially the children. They really are “city pets.” If the winter weather gets too cold the city will put out food for them!

I have loved ducks since I had pet Pekins as a boy (also loved the eggs the females laid — they provided many a yummy breakfast)!

Agreed. I am also a big fan of duck (yes, the roasted kind), but this flock is very definitely a group of feathered city pets. They are well cared for. The past winter was an unusually cold one for this area (normally it’s very temperate as we have a microclimate) and the ducks were struggling, so the city fed them.
