These lovely trees have started their spring blooming process.

Although they are referred to as cherry trees because they produce clusters of very cherry-like looking fruit in the autumn, this tree is actually a member of the dogwood family.

The “cherries” this tree produces are quite tart but I understand they make the most delicious jams, jellies, juices and fruit leathers.

This tree is in a park and the birds usually strip it bare as soon as the berries ripen, so I haven’t actually tasted them.

Tasty or not, their blooms are a lovely and welcome spring sight.

Happy Monday.
Nice!!! Have a lovely day! ❤️

I’m glad they were a nice start to your day. 😊 These trees aren’t native to the U.K. but apparently do grow there. Cheers.

Lynette, thank you for sharing about this beautiful tree with its sunbursts of blossom. It’s interesting about the jam but seems one has to find a way to keep the berries safe first! 😀

You’re very welcome, Annika and I like your description of the blooms as “sunbursts.” They do look like that especially with that sunny yellow shade! Yes, they don’t last long so the birds must like them a lot. This tree is in a park but if you had one in your garden you would probably have to net it if you wanted the fruit!

A beautiful change to cherry blossom time Lynette. I have seen these trees before but forget where. Perhaps it was in New Zealand. Happy Monday. Allan

Thanks, Allan. They do well on the BC coast, Vancouver Island, the Okanagan, the Niagara region of Ontario and niche areas of NS, NB and Nfld. but I understand that they originated in Greece, Türkiye and southern Asia. I looked them up and they do grow in N.Z so you probably saw them there. Cheers.

I do as well, Jenn. I tend to keep an eye out on my rambles for any new growth. At this time of year it’s fun to spot what’s starting to pop up or leaf out. 😊

I can just imagine 😊. Here, on the other hand, winter doesn’t want to loosen its grip!

It has been yo-yoing here, too. It’s just that we don’t usually get the extremes here at the valley floor but above us it’s a different story. The Coquihalla and Okanagan Connector highways only just reopened after a huge wind/snow storm went through. Transport trucks were literally blown over. Here’s an article about it: https://globalnews.ca/news/11728589/hurricane-strength-winds-knocked-semi-trucks-coquihalla-highway/ The wind this winter has been really something. Cheers.
