… I saw a contemplative coot …

… a watery, cloud-veiled sun …

… quail on the run …

… and best of all, some new growth!

These are iris plants and they won’t bloom until about mid-to-late April, but they’re already peeking through. Very encouraging.
Happy Sunday.
Encouraging indeed! Love the Quails too. 😃

Yes, spring will soon be on the way! 😊 The little quail are very nervous birds but very cute, too. I always have trouble getting good pictures of them because they’re so fast.

Beautiful and interesting photos again. The four quail running are amusing.

Thank you very much, Thomas. It’s always difficult – for me, anyway – to get good pictures of the quail. They’re always so quick!

Yes I know, quail are quick. I’ve seen them run and fly. Happy Sunday to you and your family.

They’re so funny. Ours here will only fly as a last resort. Thanks, Thomas. An enjoyable Sunday to you and your family, too.

It is good to see the signs of the coming spring Lynette. Quail are so cute. Happy Sunday. Allan

Thanks, Allan. I’m surprised to see the iris plants starting to grow already and hope that we don’t get some kind of cold snap that sets them back. Yes, the little quail are definitely cute!

The beak of the bird gives it away, Coot! They are common here. Beautiful photos! Quail are common here too but I wonder why they choose to run when they can fly?

The coots are common here, too. In summer they move up to the mountain lakes but in winter there are probably flocks of thousands of them on Okanagan Lake. This one was alone which I found unusual. Quail are such odd little birds. The ones here will fly, but only as a last resort!

I see, the quail here do the same thing, I might be riding my bike and come upon a small flock of them, they move those tiny legs so fast but fly only if really needed. I suppose they will not be able to fly in time given the nature of evolution.

I agree. I think they will eventually become flightless especially given how fast they can move those little legs!

They would become Penguin Quail… 🤭

No coots of quail around here and particularly no iris leaves poking through. How wonderful 😊

It definitely was a surprise to see those leaves coming out already. I hope they’re not too early! I especially love seeing the little quail running around. 😊

Perfect descriptions of your photos, Belinda. Contemplative, on the run, and peeking through.

Wow that seems early for even hardy plants. It is only the beginning of January!

The iris usually do start growing quite early but I would say these are still about three weeks ahead this time. I hope we don’t get a cold snap that sets them back.

Well as long as it stays cold up on the mountains for another month!!!
