We don’t get a lot of snow here; it’s more likely to be rain, especially in November and December, and today I really feel that November has arrived. We are socked in by rain and the very low late autumn/early winter cloud has settled into the valley.

When I talk of rain, I mean here at the valley floor, but in the surrounding mountains it’s snow; all the ski operators must be keeping their fingers crossed for good conditions!

Despite the conditions we did have a bit of clearing for an hour or so …

… but the clouds quickly returned to enclose us once more.

Happy Thursday.
I have noted those low lingering clouds in your photographs and understand your conditions. Here, just metres from the banks of a river we regularly have lingering fogs which can make life very dull.

Yes, I understand. The interplay between warmer water and colder air makes lots of fog and mist. The situation here may be a bit different from yours because we’re in a deep mountain valley with a 135 km long lake at the bottom, so we get lake effect weather together with temperature inversions caused by weather systems from the Pacific. The disadvantage is lots of cloud for two-three months but the advantage is a very mild winter, one of the mildest in Canada which is why a big wine industry can exist here. I grumble about the cloud but after spending six winters in the subarctic and arctic, mild winters are pretty wonderful!

It has that cold November look. It was 27C here today. Have a great Thursday Lynette. Allan

Thanks, Allan. Definitely chilly at 9° but we’re now supposed to get a string of sunny days with temperatures around 12-14. That may be the last hurrah before we become cloud city for the winter. 27! That’s such a nice temperature!

What a beautiful place (Have I said that before?) They’re calling for temperatures from the low twenties to the low teens over the weekend (Fahrenheit, of course) Dripping faucets everywhere. Sorry to have been out of touch but I’m back now.

That’s about -6C. Very chilly! We’re at 12C (54F) today and haven’t been below freezing yet; we’ll get a bit of that in December or January. No worries, Kenny. I hope all is well with you. 😊 Cheers.

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!!! We are coming out to Silver Star and Big White this year so hope they get loads of the stuff!

I think you’re going to be in good nick. Big White is just up the valley from us and we have been getting buckets of rain which is of course is falling as snow up there. 😊❄️

Beautiful captures. It’s been cold, rainy and windy here too. We’re even expecting our first snowfall of the season tomorrow.

Thank you, Linda. The wind has been ridiculous and of course really giving meaning to the term “pelting rain!” It hasn’t been very cold here in the valley, though. Yes, I saw that most of Ontario is getting snow. Ugh. Exercise through snow shovelling has started?!

Lucky us we were up at the cabin to enjoy the first snowfall. On our way back home now. The roads surprising aren’t too bad.
