  1. This photo is magical! Thanks for sharing it. I never took living in the mountains for granted and when I moved there I joined a hiking group that didn’t want to stop for pictures. When they would stop for a water break or to chat at the end and I would show them photos I had taken, they would take umbrage and ask where I had seen something. 🤷🏼‍♀️ Sometimes you need to look around and not be so competitive on getting to the destination.

Oh my. That’s no fun at all. I did the whole route march bit when I was in the military. Hiking/walking is meant for exercise of course but also for taking the time to appreciate where you are, whether that’s the mountains or a footpath on the prairies. Agreed; looking around and dropping the competitiveness is important too, especially for stress reduction. I wouldn’t have lasted long with that group!

      1. I didn’t last too long with them because I ended up injured. There were a few elite athletes in the group. One former olympic athlete and a triathlon winner who was just honored at some world championship, so I guess I started out in the wrong group.

          1. Lynette, thanks. It was about 8 years ago and I’m totally fine. It was foolish to try to hike at altitude with all these intense mountain women but I did push myself and made it above the tree line so that was an accomplishment.

          2. That is an accomplishment! Good for you! We’re surrounded by mountains and at most I can do 5 km (3 mi) uphill if I pace myself. But then I have to rest, drink water and poke around looking at things for a bit before heading back down!

    2. Well said. Hiking is about the journey, not about the destination. Even on my 3 day backpack hike, I stopped for photos (well, maybe to catch my breath too). Cheers. Allan
