Two Lakes, Two Days

A couple of days ago we enjoyed a beautiful autumn afternoon stop at Vaseux Lake which is 27 km (17 mi) to the south of us. It really was nice enough to have dawdled on the beach.

A couple of days later we experienced a different kind of beauty. It was cooler in a very familiar autumnal way and also a bit blustery, but the sky was so arresting with its layered cloud formations.

Happy Monday.

  1. It’s been years since I thought about Vaseux Lake. I stumbled over the spelling there for a sec because we always pronounced it Vass-oh Lake and yet the spelling doesn’t bear that out. It seems to want an “a” in it like Vaseau (but I checked and it is spelled Vaseux). Anyway, it’s a beautiful area all along there.

    1. I agree about the spelling. I wanted to add another “a” as well but that’s not how it’s spelled. Tucelnuit is another lake in the area with an odd spelling. French is my first language but initially I had no idea what it means and was inclined to say it was mostly a gibberish word. Then I found out that it’s an indigenous name meaning “water by the river.” The “nuit” portion of the word made people think that it’s French, but that spelling was just a coincidence. Nevertheless both lakes are very pretty and quiet, too. Cheers.

      1. We have to go with the original spelling even if we think it doesn’t always make sense. Interesting about Tucelnuit. I would have thought it was something about the night, but apparently not.

    1. Thank you very much, Tricia. I agree that the sky was very dramatic and it was very different from the weather we had had just a couple of days earlier. There was a sharp-edged breeze blowing off it, too!

    1. Thank you very much, Linda. We have finally cooled off into the 20s and even teens but I’m fine with that after it was so hot for so long. I saw that you had some warm weather – that’s maybe the last hurrah for a while.
