Blakiston Creek Valley

Blakiston Creek Valley is part of Waterton Lakes National Park and is home to Red Rock Canyon.

The creek passes through formations comprised of red argillite, an iron-rich rock that is present throughout the valley.

The canyon is quite popular with visitors, many of whom climb to the canyon floor to paddle in the water or to walk along the creek bed.

There is a kilometre-long trail around the creek that passes over two bridges but alternatively there is a trail further downstream …

… that is particularly beautiful …

… as the valley opens into a stunning panorama.

Happy Tuesday.

    1. Thanks, Allan. We had gorgeous weather for our visit. Yes, it must have been an awesome for hiking when your kids were young as it would have been very quiet then. It’s more popular now although still not like Banff or Jasper.

    1. Thank you very much, Jude. That canyon is quite an impressive colour especially when the sun shines on it. Red argillite is fairly common in some locales in southern Alberta but the black argillite can be found in northern B.C.
