Rain Storm

We recently had a series of showers that lasted all afternoon and night, too. In the end, we collected 10 mm (about 0.5 inch) of water which is happily going toward keeping any potential fires down, but the next morning, we saw lots of lovely clearing skies.

The carp in the fish pond didn’t seem to be much bothered, though. They continued swimming, rain or not …

… enjoying the leaves, clouds, and blue skies …

… and their attractive sky fish lives!

Happy Thursday.

  1. Nice to see the storms come and go across a lake. Its been a funny summer Lynette. Cooler and wetter than the last few years, more like the old normal. Heat arrives today though. Happy Thursday. Allan

    1. Thanks, Allan. I have happily watched storms and every kind of weather come across that lake and have really enjoyed it. I agree that it has been a funny summer. So much wetter and cooler here although we’ve been having days here and there that are crazy hot. We recently set a heat record for the valley – that’s an average from Vernon to Osoyoos – of 40. (Penticton’s record is 44.2 set in 2021). This is supposed to be a La Niña year, but definitely an odd one. Climates change.

    1. We’ve been experiencing an unusual summer. Lots of rainy periods but high temperatures at times, too. I don’t mind the rain at all since it’s definitely keeping the fires down. We had more than enough of them over the last few years.

    1. Hi Maggie, yes, it did. A good friend of ours just moved there and was surprised by it. Lots of localised flooding, apparently. Yes, I remember Calgary’s “water problems” when I lived in Alberta. Agreed, climate change.

    1. Thank you very much, Belinda. 😊 We have had sun too but it has been cooler than usual and with a lot more rain. I’m not complaining because that’s keeping the fire threat down, just observing. Evidence of climate change, I think.

    1. Thank you very much, Tricia. The lakes here are very photogenic, even when the weather is poor. We have regularly been getting rain, quite unusual for summer here in the Okanagan but no complaints since we haven’t been experiencing any fires, either. Cheers.

    1. I love water reflections and how they can sometimes be so clear that you can reverse the photo and find it hard to tell the difference! Yes, rain always makes the difference. I hope you have cooled off a bit in Ontario; I saw that it’s rather hot and humid.

      1. We’re still under a heat warning. Today is supposed to be another hot (33C) and humid (feels like 40C) day! It’s supposed to “cool down” later in the week. Thank goodness for air conditioning though.

        1. Temperatures here regularly get into the high 30s, especially in July and August, but it’s dry which makes it a lot easier to cope with. Ontario can really crank up the humidity and that’s just so uncomfortable although I think you must be setting records this time. Yes, thankfully there’s air conditioning. Stay cool!
