The Three Sisters are a trio of mountain peaks near Canmore, Alberta.

They are a part of the Rocky Mountain range and are frequently climbed although they vary considerably in difficulty.

Before attempting any or all of them, it’s necessary to have the skill and expertise to handle their demands.

Happy Thursday.
Happy just to look, Lynette xx

Me too! I just admire them; I don’t need to climb them.

Such an iconic view. We’ve been to Banff a few times and even though Canmore is nearby, we’ve actually never done any hiking there.

It definitely is. In some ways, the hiking is better because fewer people stop there but I noticed this time that it was quite busy.

Climbing mountains is good for other people, not me. But that doesn’t mean I can’t enjoy looking at the mountains they want to climb.

Mountain climbing is definitely not my thing. I did a bit of rock climbing when I was much younger but that was it. Like you, I do enjoy admiring the mountains they want to climb though.

Great photo.

Thank you. The same sort of thing has happened to me. So annoying.

I can look at those three peaks and immediately identify where they are. Still a beautiful area, but like Banff, far too crowded for us. Happy Thursday Lynette. Allan

Thank you very much, Allan. They’re so iconic, aren’t they? We used to find Canmore to be less busy than Banff but this time it’s very crowded. We have a friend who lives there who says that this year in particular there are many more visitors.

I read a really good novel by Canadian Katherine Govier called, The Three Sisters Bar And Hotel, that was set in that area. Very good read. You photo reminded me of it.

I hadn’t heard of that novel before. Thanks for the heads up. The Three Sisters mountains are so recognisable; a good name for a novel.

Beautiful! Interestingly, Oregon also has some closely spaced volcanic peaks called Three Sisters. I hope you have a lovely day!

Thank you; I hope you do, too. I didn’t know that, Tricia. I looked them up and they seem just as beautiful as ours. Cheers.

My first thought was the same as restlessjo’s – happy just to look.

I’m completely happy to look, also. Mountain climbing definitely isn’t in my wheelhouse.

You don’t see that often. I need a geologist.

The Three Sisters are pretty iconic and quite recognisable but not volcanically active. Cheers.

Canmore certainly has changed….I think the first time I visited with my parents, early 70’s there wasn’t much there..and we stayed in a hotel out at what was called Three Sisters, now Canmore is huge, and busy, lots of traffic…it’s a nice option for accommodation for those that don’t want Banff or to pay for that national park pass…..a lot that visit or live there are just there…so the climbs like to ha ling peak are not over crowded, and mtn biking the nordic centre is fine too

It’s definitely a lot bigger and busier than it used to be. This summer the national parks pass is free, just so that you know. Yes, a less expensive option all the way around although this visit it was a lot busier and more crowded than we’ve seen in the past. Thanks for stopping to comment.

Beautiful mountains, Lynette! I’m going to stick to the moderately difficult trails, though.

Exactly! No mountain climbing for me, either. I’m just going to stay down below and admire them from afar!

They are very impressive mountains. I wonder which one is the most difficult to climb.

Yes, very impressive. Little Sister is the most difficult and requires ropes, pins, etc. In the pictures, that is the one on the left.

Is Little sister the one on the right?

No, Little Sister is the one on the left. I understand that it perhaps looks taller from that angle but it actually isn’t. It’s 2684 m while Middle Sister is 2769 and Big Sister is 2936. Cheers.
