Sometimes things are so big that we need a comparison to really get the picture. Here’s one.
We stopped at an outlook for a walk while driving the Icefields Parkway through the Rocky Mountains …

… and saw how dinky the highway looked compared to the enormous mountain towering above it.

It was a stunning, breathtaking vista …

… and a reminder that in the scheme of things, we are very puny beings.
Happy Monday.
Majestic scenery!

We have always stopped for that view, both at the top and the bottom. Humans are full of their own self importance and need to pause to look at the bigger picture from time to time. Happy Monday Lynette. Allan

I can understand why you do, Allan. We would too. Yes, it’s such an amazing example of how we do need to see the bigger picture. While standing there I was strongly reminded of these famous lines from Crocodile Dundee:
Well, you see, Aborigines don’t own the land. They belong to it. It’s like their mother. See those rocks? Been standing there for 600 million years. Still be there when you and I are gone. So arguing over who owns them is like two fleas arguing over who owns the dog they live on.

I love the Crocodile Dundee reference. It is so true. We spend so much time arguing and in the end it makes no matter.

I agree. And have learned to not take myself too seriously because of it. 😉

Yes, I have also learned not to take myself too seriously. For me, it was one of those defining points in life that allowed me to breathe more easily. Cheers. 😊

Yes, it’s gorgeous and “weeping wall” is certainly an excellent name for those cliffs. I can see that they would be. Cheers.

I love sharp-edged mountains. Our East coast Appalachians are round and smooth–well, because they are no longer growing, but still.

Yes, the Rocky Mountains are one of the world’s most impressive formations but like the Appalachians, ours here in the Okanagan are much older as well and also quite rounded. But agreed, mountains are always so beautiful, even if they’re less imposing.

The Dolomites are gorgeous. It has been a few years since I’ve seen them, but those jagged peaks are spectacular! I hope you enjoy your time there. Cheers.

So true Lynette….and really resonates given where we’ve been these last few weeks

I bet it does, Phil; I think I understand. We humans can be much too full of ourselves.

Hi Lynette, your post was sent to me from a friend as we’ll be visiting that area in Sept this year (from Australia) and I just am in awe of those views. We are indeed puny!!
Thanks. Debbie

Pleased to meet you, Debbie. 😊 Lovely to hear that you’re visiting. If there’s any information or guidance I can help with, please email (just drop a reminder comment as I don’t check the WP email all that often). Jasper and Banff National parks are two of our favourite places on Earth and yes, the views are stunning. September is a great time to visit, too. Cheers.

Thank you very much, Tricia. We sure are, aren’t we? As I commented to Allan, while I was standing there immersed in that stunning view, I was strongly reminded of these lines from Crocodile Dundee:

It sure does, doesn’t it? In standing there I really felt how small I am in comparison to our planet, let alone the universe! Cheers.

What a stunning road that is. And you’ve photographed one of my favourite mountains on it. 🙂
I’ve just come back from the Tyrol in Austria. Only a brief trip but it was good to see mountains again.

It’s such stunning geography that I don’t think I could drive through there without stopping. Happy to include a photo of one of your favourites. 😊
We live among the Okanagan Mountains which are a sub-range of the Cascades. Nothing like the Rockies, of course, but we do love them.
