Sun showers are an interesting weather phenomenon. In one spot, thick heavy clouds may be dropping significant rain while a few metres away, it’s sunny.

This was the case recently when I went for my daily ramble. There were some dark clouds producing a misty rain and a bit of a rainbow …

… while on the other side of the lake, the sun shone beautifully.

The contrast of sun and dark cloud probably shows better in this photo.

The sun was shining on these azaleas but you can see the dark cloud behind them. Eventually the weather cleared completely and I finished my ramble without need for an umbrella.
Happy Monday.
lovely! I’m at Flint Bishop Airport at 4AM and there is lightning all around!

Thank you, John. 😊 That is an awfully early start. Ugh. I hope you can nap a bit but in any event you’ll soon be home and can nap in your own space!

It’s been sunny but over here on the east coast it’s been quite chilly with a wind off the North Sea keeping temperatures below the rest of the country. Still precious little rain though!

Wind off the North Sea is definitely chilly! It sounds like you’re not getting enough rain, though. I hope you get some soon. Cheers.

I can never sleep on an aircraft, Lynette, too noisy. The jet lag yesterday was so bad and it will hang on for another day or three. Uhg!

All sounds like a typical April in England, though it’s not quite been that way this year. Love the sunbeams on the surface of the lake

Yes, I like that scene too and have posted quite a few photos taken from that vantage point. It’s definitely wetter here than usual but no one is complaining since during the previous three years we had a major drought. The past autumn and winter brought lots of rain – snow at the upper elevations – so the ski operators were happy as well as the wine producers and orchardists. It’s so great to see how green everything is this year. I understand that UK has been drier and warmer than usual.

Spring is unpredictable. A couple of showers here yesterday too Lynette, but otherwise sunny and windy. The azalea blooms are amazing right now. Happy Monday. Allan

Thank you, Allan. Yes, it sure is. We had intermittent heavy wind gusts accompanying those very dark, patchy clouds which were blowing in from the west; quite unusual for us. This valley has a north-south orientation between two mountain ranges, so a westerly wind along with the sun showers seems appropriate! Yes, the azaleas are fantastic right now. So beautiful!

That’s some weather headed for you? Or not?

That weather had already passed over and was headed away, but it had dropped a significant shower!

A little bit of sun, a little bit of rain, a little bit of everything we need.

That’s so true and has worked particularly well this year as everything is becoming so beautifully verdant. Much healthier than last year with its dry conditions and how badly the orchards and wineries had been affected by that cold snap in January 2024. Cheers.

I hope those wineries are recovering.

Quite a few went under, unfortunately, but the government has insisted that all remaining wineries and orchards take protective measures such as underground warm water piping, geotextiles (a specialised white cloth that covers the trees or grape vines) or LED lights that provide warmth. Apparently the government made a lot of grant money available for these fixes. Most of the older or more established wineries survived, though.

Thank you very much. Yes, that particular azalea is about 3.5 metres tall and completely covered in blooms. So beautiful. 🌸

Your photos have beautifully captured the dramatic weather fluctuations. Sounds just like spring here in the PNW!

Thank you very much, Tricia. 😊 It seems that our weather is quite similar to yours or is lately, at least! Cheers.

Lovely photos, Lynette!! It looks like you have to be armed with sunscreen and an umbrella 😊

That’s so true, Belinda! When the sun shone it had quite a lot of power but then the rain would fall, cooling off everything. Not boring!

Glad to hear you didn’t need the umbrella. It’s always neat to see the rain come in off the water. Even better when you don’t get soaked by it. The azaleas are really pretty too.

Hahaha. 😊 Yes, I avoided a soaking and it was interesting to watch this interplay between sun and rain and with such dark clouds, too. They were broken up which allowed the beautiful contrast. Cheers.
