This good old saying always reminds us to pay attention, to notice and appreciate what’s around us and to slow down a bit so that we can. So here’s what I saw recently while slowing down to just … notice and appreciate.

Happy weekend and don’t forget to stop and smell the coffee (or tea).
Such a warm post! 🤎

Thank you very much, Liz. 😊 I have often sat there for a bit just to look at the lake. It’s very calming. Cheers.

I’d be happy to join you for a coffee. Lovely views.

That would be lovely, Jude. I would like that a lot. Cheers.

Always aa good plan Lynette. It is amazing what you see when walks become a journey rather than a race. And a good coffee is always welcome. Happy Friday. Allan

Thanks, Allan. Retirement has helped a lot. Exercise used to be one of those things to check off in a busy day – that’s if I got to it at all – and now it’s such a pleasure to take my time. Cheers.

Already done that….it’s nearly time to smell the beer….

We had buckets late yesterday afternoon. I got home just before the skies opened up!

Better than just after. Well, you don’t have to water the garden.

Hahaha. 😊 Definitely not required!

Beautiful views! Is the lake a lake or an inlet from the sea?

This is a fjord lake that runs north to south and has mountains on either side to the east and west. It’s 135 km (84 mi) long and between 4-5 km (2.5 – 3.1 mi) wide. We’re 4 hours by car from the Pacific coast. It’s a very beautiful area. Cheers.

Wow! Thank you for the info, Lynette, that is amazing! Lots of sports can be had on that water if it freezes solid enough which it seems like it would. Where’s my snowmobile!
LikeLiked by 1 person
You’re very welcome, John. It never freezes, though. A little bit around the edges, but some years, not even that. The winters here are very temperate; it just never gets very cold – the valley is known for cherry orchards and wine grapes, so that will give you an idea. Summer sports such as hiking, sailing, fishing, windsurfing and cliff diving are popular. No snowmobiles at all!

Some of my favourite walks are these kinds of walks- not rushing, just appreciating the little gems along the way 😊

I love those too as you can tell and retirement has really allowed me to capitalise on them. Stopping when I want to, enjoying and appreciating. So great, aren’t they? 😊

Thank you very much, Hazel. I like the mallards a lot and of course they’re adorable when they’re sleeping. 😊

Yeah, I agree. Are they tame?

Not completely but they are very accustomed to being around people and are basically community pets. The city even feeds them during the winter if it gets a bit too cold for them!

I’d love that, whenever you’re in Vancouver. How can we contact each other privately, do you know? (WP used to attach private email addresses to comments sent to one’s private inbox, but no longer.)

I’ve sent an email to your icelandpenny address with a private one for me; let me know if you get it. I hope we can make this work some time. Cheers.

On this side of the continent, we grew up with “Take time to smell the flowers.” But then I’m not a coffee drinker…
LikeLiked by 3 people
Thanks; I hadn’t heard that version before. Taking time to smell the flowers is probably better since that likely means you’re outside already. A good start on a walk. 😊

Stop and smell the roses is the way I always heard the phrase. I like the change to stopping to smell the coffee because with coffee, I am sitting and relaxing. A good reminder to pause at breakfast time and appreciate the first sips of the morning. Lovely photos.

Thank you very much, Laura. Another commenter introduced me to “stop and smell the flowers;” this is the first I’ve heard of either variant saying but agreed, coffee is a wonderful time of day, best savoured in a relaxed manner. Cheers.

Very lovely things to notice. I don’t drink coffee, but I love the smell of it. But tea on the other hand I have quite often. Enjoy the rest of the weekend! And hello from Auckland!

You’re in Auckland! I’m looking forward to your NZ posts, Linda. I have occasionally considered giving up coffee but in the end I just enjoy it too much. I am down to one cup a day now, though. Enjoy your visit and some kiwi tea, too. Cheers.

We’re still trying to figure out nap times, but we’ll have five weeks to sort it out. So far she’s handling it much better than expected. And the important part is that she’s mostly sleeping through the night!

Sometimes our little ones handle large time differences better than we adults do! Mostly sleeping through the night is pretty great.
