A Pause in the Wind

The wind has finally calmed, taking with it the clear but chilly high pressure system that we’ve experienced over the last few days.

As the wind dissipated, a low moved in bringing somewhat warmer temperatures – the windless conditions definitely contributed to that, too – and lots more cloud again. But the lake has calmed, the ducks and Canada geese are much happier now, and it’s a lot easier to keep your feet if you’re taking a lakeside walk!

Of course, with this low there’s going to be precipitation; we’ll see whether it’s wet snow or rain. This is quite different from February, 2024, when the sun was shining and we were definitely headed toward spring conditions; I’m starting to think that spring 2025 might be much later.

Happy pre-Valentine’s.

  1. The winds this winter have been relentless. Couple that with continually falling ice crystals or nuisance snows and there have been more than our fair share of bleak days. A warm up (and more snow) are coming here next week. Fingers crossed as cabin fever sets in. Have a lovely Thursday Lynette. Allan

    1. Thanks, Allan. We’re expecting plus temperatures by the weekend but the predictions haven’t been all that accurate for this area. We have sun today but rain and/or snow were predicted. I agree about that wind! Next to the water it felt like I was back in NWT! Yes, fingers crossed for some warmth! Cheers.

    1. One of my favourite colours. That grey-blue is very impressively moody and it brought warmer temperatures, too, but it’s gone now. Today we have clear skies and are supposed to be well above freezing for the weekend but we’ll see. The predictions for weather in this area haven’t been very accurate this winter.

  2. Ah windless…that’s my fav but just don’t see/feel that state often enough at home! Just had 4 BC days without any and with brilliant sunshine.

    1. We had a return to sunny conditions yesterday and a dusting of snow last night but that won’t last long since today we’re at +1 and more sun. I understand that a terrible cold front is headed your way from the Arctic but will bypass us here, thankfully. Stay warm and I hope that even if it’s wickedly cold that it’s at least windless and sunny! 😎 I hope you enjoyed your B.C. trip. Cheers.
