I took a long Boxing Day walk to get some exercise after a couple of days of too many good things to eat.

We have had a lot of rain, so our resident mallard duck flock was very happy.

Our overcast was breaking up, and though I’m hopeful of a bit of sun, the forecast isn’t in my favour. We are slated to get lots more rain over the next week …

… so we will be getting much more of this instead.

Nevertheless, there is a counterpoint. The seasonal lights look lovely against the grey, rainy sky, reminding all of us that the sun will be back.
Happy Friday.
It certainly looks like B.C. got a lot of rain and wind in this latest storm. It has finally been sunny and warm in our neck of the woods. Nice to get a weather break over the holidays. Have a great Friday Lynette. Allan

Thanks, Allan. Oh yes, Vancouver Island in particular got walloped. One advantage to living in the Okanagan is that we didn’t get nearly the wind that the coast did but of course we are very wet and the passes have been getting enormous amounts of snow. Nice that you’re getting some sun, Allan. A friend who lives in Lacombe was telling me that your temperatures are expected to drop, so stay warm!

Do the mallards stay all year? They would be nice to see in the middle of winter. Maggie

The picture shows a small part of a huge flock that stays all year. If it gets cold (we had an unusually cold few days in January) they will huddle and the city will feed them (although they get fed by lots of people). They can be messy but everyone seems to love them.

I love those ducks, so cute! And that beautifully moody mountain view too! I’ll bet you are happy that this is rain and not snow, Lynette. Have a great weekend. 😊

Thank you very much, John. The ducks are part of a huge flock that inhabits the waterfront park/beach system. I am definitely glad that we’re not getting snow! It’s one of the advantages of living here. We might get a tiny bit in January but more likely we won’t. 😊

Ooooh that’s so nice! Just like here too, that stuff stays in the mountains where it belongs over 4000 feet up. 😂👍🏻

Agreed – it should be where the skiers can enjoy it. 😊

There is a very nice ski lodge up there that the Vegas locals love very much! They added a new chairlift last summer. They offer rides on the chairlifts in the summer months, it’s a great break from the 100+ temps way below in the valley.

Lots of ski resorts around here as you might imagine and going up into the mountains in summer to escape the temperatures is also common. Gets very hot here into the 40s (100s F).

Wow, 100s there? I had no idea…

That’s okay- we are also getting rain! Difference is it doesn’t look good on snow…ugh.

The best that can be said is that at least you don’t have to shovel it. 😉

Rain lasted 20 mins, and it has snowed since my first comment. It’s pretty warm, though, and the concern is it will turn back to rain.

And then it might freeze. Ahh, the delights of a Canadian winter!

Really nice pics, Lynette. It doesn’t always have to be a sunny day to get a good photo.

Thank you very much, Anneli. I agree. I especially like the steel blue of the sky when the overcast is intense. The lake definitely has many faces.

Sometimes blue sky, though it makes us happy, doesn’t allow for interesting clouds or sea action, so I find the variety in “unsunny” photos much more interesting. And yes, to the steel blue overcast sky.

I agree, Anneli. Beautiful sunny days all tend to be lovely in the same way, but an unsettled ocean, a thick overcast or piles of snow all add dimension and intensity to those sunny days. Yes, much more interesting.

I bet the ducks prefer the rain over snow! Pretty photos of the breaks in between 😊

Thank you very much, Belinda. 😊They’re definitely not big fans of snow, especially if their little creek becomes frozen as it did for a few days last January!

If it weren’t for the bad weather, we wouldn’t appreciate the good weather. We’re also expecting quite a bit of rain this weekend followed by some snow later in the week.

Agreed, Anneli. I saw that you’re about to get walloped again. The coast certainly does get major winter wind and rain storms. I hope you don’t get much snow, though.
