We are back home now after a lovely mini-break holiday in Victoria. On the way home we drove through the Cascade Mountains which encompass an incredibly large area from Kamloops in British Columbia all the way down the Pacific coast to northern California.

In Canada, there are a number of subranges of the Cascades, including those on the west side of our home in the Okanagan Valley, the Okanagan Range.

Although some snow had fallen, the trees and shrubs were covered in a layer of frost caused by the cloud and mist which treated us to some very beautiful seasonal scenes.
We arrived home to 5C (41F) and were happy to be back after our little break.
Fantastic scenery!

Love the snowy frosty tree tops Lynette, as long as it stays off the road. Glad you got home safe. Allan

Thanks, Allan. It was definitely a very pretty drive in the misty conditions. The road was wet but no surface snow or ice so that was great. Yesterday there was a lot of snow in the mountains, so I’m happy we weren’t driving then. Cheers.

Thank you very much. 😊 This is highway 3 which passes through Manning Provincial Park in southern BC. It’s a gorgeous drive at any time … well, not in a snowstorm, though! Cheers.

I hope your drive home wasn’t too slippery with that snow.

Happily, it wasn’t slippery at all. The road was wet but there wasn’t any surface snow or ice. The temperature was around 3 or 4, so that helped. Cheers.

You were lucky. Those roads can get some awful and sudden dumps of snow.

They can, but our years in the north had us well prepared for it (although driving through a snowstorm or having to wait one out wouldn’t be my first choice!). In fact they did get a big dump yesterday. Cheers.

A beautiful drive though BC. You captured the clouds very well. Maggie

Thank you very much, Maggie. 😊That’s highway 3 through Manning Provincial Park. Lots of good hiking or walking there – for us that’s in the summer – we don’t do winter hiking any longer.

My dad grew up in Rock Creek, so I’ve been on that highway many times as a kid. As an adult though, I think only as far as Rossland.

That highway goes through some very beautiful parks and regions. Not great if you get caught on it during a snowstorm, but otherwise it’s gorgeous.

Very beautiful mountains, Lynette! I’m glad that you had a safe trip. 😊

Thank you, John. It’s always a beautiful drive – that’s if you’re not in a snowstorm – but we happily didn’t experience any snow or ice on the road. It was sitting in the trees where it looked beautiful. 😊

Beautiful photos of a winter wonderland. The Cascades always remind me that years ago there was a small, regional airline called Cascade Airways. They flew mostly in Washington State with a few other routes to SLC and Portland.

Thank you very much, Tricia. Although I didn’t fly with it, I remember hearing the name of that regional airline. Cheers.

Looks beautiful and very festive with the misty clouds and snow. I’m sure it was nice to getaway before the holidays before the roads get busier.

I think we went at exactly the right time before everything gets really busy. We had a nice break and a good visit with family who live on Vancouver Island. We got back home just ahead of a huge snowstorm on that road the next day!

It was a beautiful drive through this mountain range but we were happy to get home as the passes became clogged with snow the next day.

Yes, that area is volcanic and I have read that Mount St Helens is rebuilding to another eruption, probably in about 50 years.
Thank you very much, Kristi. 😊 Cheers.
