We’re deep into November now and have entered the rainy season. If the weather sticks to its usual patterns, we will have a lot of rain and cloud for about the next two months.

We still have a little colour around that’s breaking up the grey motif, but probably not for long. Soon we will rely on seasonal light displays and plants such as poinsettias to bring us some relief.

The lace leaf maples are beginning to turn purple – the colour change stage they enter before dropping their leaves – and a light rain accompanies almost every step we take.

Lots of bushes and trees will retain a duller shade of green as they rest through the winter until they’re ready to once more provide us with their beauties.
Happy Saturday.
The Chittamwood trees are unknown to me. Very nice!

They’re not native to this area (they come from the southern U.S. and Mexico) but they do well here. They turn red late in the autumn and will probably only shed their leaves in December, so they’re a bright spot in our grey rainy conditions right now.

The weather hasn’t been too bad this November so I really can’t complain. Love the lace leaf maples. Ours still has some leaves on it, but they’re quickly dying.

Ours really hasn’t bad either, just rather grey, but we’re catching up from a long drought and this rain has been very slow and soaking, so it’s exactly what’s needed. I love those maples too, although I think I like any type of maple!

Please send some rain down south to the Mojave Desert, Lynette! Boy do we need it. 😂

I understand, John. We have slowly been coming out of a very long drought – that included terrible forest fires – and are finally getting a more normal, wet winter. I hope the rain works its way to you, too.

I have seen the fires in Canada too, so sad! Be safe, Lynette. 🙏🏻

Thanks, John. They’re out now, thankfully, but there’s so much damage.

It will take decades for the forest to regrow, but I feel bad for the people losing so much. 😭🙏🏻

Yes, it will take a long time.

I wonder if I’ve ever seen lace leaf maples, a tree I don’t recall ever hearing about before. Maybe, without knowing it.

They’re relatively new to me, too. I think I only saw my first one about 10 years ago. Their leaves are beautiful and the tree shape is lovely. Cheers.

I find their shape, patterns and colours very attractive, too, and it’s great to see their colours now when the weather has become so grey.

Nice to have some trees hold their leaves to ease the grey period in Lynette. Happy Saturday. Allan

Thanks, Allan. It sure is. Another grey day today and we might be getting some wind from the next Pacific storm, too. All the rain in the valley is falling as snow in the mountains so the ski operators are delighted. Big White opened yesterday; its first early opening since 2020. Cheers.

Now I wonder if a lace maple would grow here.

You’re near Saskatoon I believe? Probably not since these grow in zones 5-8 and Saskatoon is zone 3. But you could try a red maple. They’re very hardy and turn such a glorious red in autumn. Cheers.

I do as well. They are so pretty and appear quite late after most other leaves have fallen.
