About ten days ago, we were enjoying a very serene, lovely autumn, even the wind was resting …

… and the ducks were contentedly paddling along …

… the sun was warm but there was also an invigoratingly cool suggestion in the air, like momentarily seeing your breath above a glass of ice water.

Warm, beautiful colours abounded, but then …

… a seasonal switch was flipped and we headed into late autumn or more likely, early winter.

We are turning with the sun while everything rests, but we will be ready when spring arrives again.
Happy Monday.
Lynette, I love the photo of the sun through the autumn leaves, lighting them all up! Yep, we have the same here, the switch came yesterday as the Arctic cold is sweeping down. I’m smiling at the mention of Spring, at the moment it feels a long way away but I definitely look forward to it!

Hi Annika, oh yes, it does feel far, doesn’t it? But I try not to look at it that way since winter does have its incredible beauties too, particularly in the arctic and subarctic. Here in the valley it’s just sort of grey but the cloud formations through the mountains around us can be gorgeous, too. It seems that many of us in the northern hemisphere are seeing the seasonal turn at about the same time which of course is how it should be and has been questionable for some time now. Thank you very much; I like that photo a lot, too. Cheers.

Happy ducks make me happy. Your serene photos are delightful. Our world is now gray and wet, no arctic cold just midwest blah.

Thank you very much, Ally. It’s lovely to see them paddling about, just doing duck things. They’re part of our resident flock who are now settled in their winter location next to a well-treed area of “their” creek and also adjacent to a footpath where they can beg some yummies. We usually bring them cooked quinoa which is healthier for them than bread. We are grey and wet too and it’s supposed to keep up for the next week. We’re thinking of taking a little trip up into the mountains where there’s sun and fresh snow!

A good series of photos Lynette. I always describe the weather at this time of year as “changeable”, especially in Vancouver. You never know what you will get Happy Monday. Allan

Thank you very much, Allan. Changeable is right. We apparently have a “cyclone bomb” (these names are brutal – I wonder who’s employed to dream these up!) on the way that’s going to bring a lot of rain and very strong wind, particularly to Vancouver Island and the coast generally. We’re getting it too, but not as intensely. Don’t blow away!

Despite the drop in temperature there’s much to be said for the cool beauty in your last photo 😊

Thank you very much, Belinda. 😊 I also see the beauty in the more wintery or coolish conditions. After years in the subarctic I don’t want to be in them much, but their beauties are undeniable. Cheers.

Sounds like you made the most of the final days of the nice weather and fall colours. Yesterday was quite mild here (11C) so I put up all my outside Christmas lights and decor.

Yes, I am making the most of any good weather that arrives since it seems to be turning into a rarity for now. Ontario seems to be in a very mild phase while the weather goes down all around! Great to take advantage of it to get your lights and decorations up. Cheers.
