I frequently walk through Penticton’s small but lovely Japanese garden. It’s very peaceful and relaxing, even in winter.

Although we’re fully into autumn now, it’s still quite green although most of the hydrangeas are fading …

… and some of the plants are showing their fall outfits.

What’s more indicative of autumn is the slant of the sun, the cool edge that the wind now has…

… and the tint of the sky. Somehow, this grey is different from the summer greys.

I can’t visit the garden without stopping to watch the fish for a bit. Some of them are very large and their colours definitely fit right in with the season.
Happy October. 🍂
I feel the fall breeze and hear the leaves shaking in your pictures. Your right, the position of the sun changes the look of everything in the fall. Maggie

Yes, I think these photos convey that shift. There was a breeze with a sharp edge and the light was just very autumny. It was our first real fall day, I think.

Happy October to you too, Lynette. That looks a lovely peaceful spot.

Thank you very much, Jo. 😊 It’s a lovely garden and it’s quite popular. Children always want to see the fish and adults like to read or nap. I’ve seen lots of nappers on the benches!

Japanese gardens are at their best in spring and autumn. This one looks very nice. My cranberry cotoneaster is nowhere the size of the one in the garden. Happy October Lynette. Allan

I agree, Allan. They seem to do those looks very well. It’s a lovely little garden that really encourages people to slow down and chill, even if only for a bit. Yes, that cotoneaster is a large one! Cheers.

Japanese gardens are so tranquil. Especially beautiful in autumn and spring.

I agree, Jude, autumn and spring are their best seasons and yes, they are very tranquil. I just strolled through today and even under grey skies it was lovely to stop to admire it.

Yes, so true. This garden retains its beauty even as the wind bites and the clouds roll in.

October can be such a lovely month back home, especially if we get some of those crisp, bright days, with a frosty start but crystal clear air. You can almost forget that winter’s ugly grey days are coming!

Yes, September and the beginning of October in particular are beautiful here, too. And those grey skies? Ugh. This valley gets socked in with low lying overcast in late December and January. We can drive up to a nearby ski resort for some lunch and sun, though!

It sure is a lovely little garden and very popular, as well. It has become part of my routine to check it out a couple of times a week and of course, I can’t resist a photo or two. 😊
