  1. A beautiful part of the island Lynette. We only got as close to Poet Hardy as Telegraph Cove, twice. We spent a night at TC on one visit and it was very peaceful once the day visitors left. Happy Saturday. Allan

    1. Thanks, Allan. We took the ferry through the Inside Passage from Prince Rupert to Port Hardy (something you should really consider if you’re going to Haida Gwaii). It’s 15 hours but sailing through some of the most beautiful scenery on Earth. We spent the night in PH and poked around a bit but then had to catch our ferry from Nanaimo. Cheers.

  2. Looks beautiful. We got as far as Port McNeil and several days on Cormorant Island staying in Alert Bay. We loved it up there. Stunning views. And whale watching. And very interesting First Nation culture.

    1. It sounds as though you spent significant time on Vancouver Island, Jude. We love it, especially the west coast. We took the ferry down the Inside Passage to Port Hardy and saw a number of small whales along the way. So great.

      1. We have had a couple of holidays on the island. There is so much to see. There are loads of posts on my Travel blog. We saw orcas too from the ferries over from the mainland. Though disappointingly not much on our actual whale watching tour!

        1. I’ve never had much success with whale watching. The last one was supposed to be in Iceland but cancelled because of a storm. I’ve seen quite a few over the years but incidentally. Agreed – there is a lot to see; our favourite is the Tofino and Ucluelet areas. I’ll check out your travel blog. Cheers.

    1. Thank you very much, Linda. I’m guessing that you would be going to Tofino and Ucluelet and possibly the Pacific Rim Park that are all on the west coast relatively near each other.

Port Hardy is on the north end on highway 19A (it follows the east coast) but you need highway 4 for the Pacific Rim. It cuts across the island from east to west. The upshot is that it’s a bit difficult to see both areas if you don’t have a lot of time as they are in two widely separated locations. Have fun with your planning! Let me know if I can help with any questions. Cheers.

  3. Doing a circular trip. A lot of ground covered and so much of it not seen by main stream travelers. Thanks for the stellar view of the harbour. VI is always so scenic

    1. You’re very welcome, Bernie. Yes, we did the great circle route and very true, not a large number of tourists. I agree, VI is beautiful, and actually, we saw some of the most beautiful scenery o. Earth on this trip.
