Go h-álainn. (Beautiful). Interestingly there’s a Castlegar in County Galway, in west of Ireland. Perhaps not too surprising given emigration.

Thank you very much. 😊 It does take its name from your Castlegar. Here’s a Wikipedia piece about the history. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Castlegar,_British_Columbia
Cheers.

Flipping hell. “Castlegar Estate, the ancestral home of” so-and-so… They robbed our land. 😡 Still, he had the sense to bring the name afar! (I always try to find the positive). Translation fro Irish would be ‘short castle’. I bet he couldn’t finish the estate house. 😜

Definitely did. I did a bit of follow-up digging and found out that Mahon actually lived in Vancouver and was well-known there because his wife was something of a celebrated artist. He had a mine in Castlegar but I couldn’t find that he actually resided there. All very colonial and driven by money and power. Ugh.
I love the name and looked up pictures of the original Castlegar. I’m sorry I didn’t see it when I visited Galway a few years ago.

Views from the air are a distant memory, but we are back on planes this year. About time. We love the view over the mountains on a clear day. Happy Friday Lynette. Allan

Views over the mountain ranges on a clear day is a pretty wonderful thing, isn’t it? Are you travelling abroad? We will be later this year. Cheers.

Yes, on a good day. We won’t think about all the bad weather days, but this is beautiful.

I agree, Anneli. When the sun shines on them, they’re gorgeous, but mountain weather can turn quickly, and not usually for the better.

It’s wise to be on the alert for that, as I’m sure you were.

Yes, we were; that’s a cardinal rule in particular for flying in the mountains.

This is the Selkirk range which is part of the Columbia Mountains to the west of the Rockies. Maybe you will be able to visit some time as this area has terrific hiking with some of the most spectacular views ever. Cheers.
