This fountain in our Japanese garden was quite impaired by the cold weather we had!

It was left running because the pond is full of fish, and given how shallow it is, they might have frozen in our recent cold snap. So it was still struggling along, with what looks like a collapsing volcanic snow-cone around it.
Here’s a similar view in black and white. which one do you prefer?

Happy Friday; happy weekend.
I take cold comfort in replying:
I like them equally, & I ain’t lying!

Hahaha. 😊 Thank you very much. I like both as well. The second reminds me of the black and white postcards my parents used to bring home after holidays.

Hope it has not been damaged by the freezing. Do they have koi in any of the garden ponds? If so, I wonder how they fared. Happy Friday Lynette. Allan

Thanks, Allan. I hope so too. It was kept running because of all the fish in the pond – lots of goldfish, orfe and koi. There’s a section of water that was open around the fountain but I couldn’t see any fish. I’m going back today to see if the ice has melted enough to see any swimming around.

I prefer the ice blue in the icy one with color. It looks colder!

I like both versions but yes, the colour gives it a colder look. I find that the blue sky in the background really communicates wintry conditions, although the temperature was well above freezing. The black and white has a warmer hue.

Probably the black and white, but they both look very cold!

Agreed; they both do, but I find that the colour version looks even colder.

Black & white for me. I wonder can fish see in colour? 🤔

Hahaha. 😊 Actually, most fish do and actually have better vision than us in that they can see ultraviolet and polarised wavelengths.

I like the colour version because the blues of the water and ice are enhanced.

I like them both but agreed, the blues give it a much colder look. It was actually not a bad temperature though; well above freezing and great walking weather.

I like the shades of blue – a bit different from the usual blues.

Yes, I think so too.

I like it in b/w! How’d the fish do?

Not sure how they are doing yet but am actually leaving to check in a few minutes. I think the ice has melted enough now to tell. I like the b and w as well; it’s funny how it has a warmer hue than the colour.

They’re both stunning, but I prefer the color photo. I hope the fish are okay!

The pond has opened up a lot with the warming temperatures but I still haven’t been able to spot any fish. I hope that at least some made it through our frigid cold snap. I like both photos but the colour picture conveys a sense of cold much more than the b and w. Cheers.

Both a beautiful, but I got to go with the majority and say colour as well. Probably because I’ve seen enough black, white and greyness this winter!

Thanks, Linda.
Agreed! I’ve seen enough black, white, and grey too! It’s funny though that I find the b and w to be a warmer tone than the colour. Cheers.
