Beautiful October Day

Yesterday we had a gorgeous autumn day and decided to have lunch at a restaurant next to Skaha Lake. Penticton sits on an ancient landslide that bisected the valley’s lake to create two: Okanagan Lake at Penticton’s north end and Skaha Lake to the south.

Skaha Lake looking west.

The temperature was perfect so enjoying lunch outside was a good choice. We might not be able to do that for much longer and we got a perfect day for it, or as close to that as possible.

The nearby marina sat placidly in the sparkling lake.

The day was stunningly clear with its beautiful blue canopy.

The dry mountain conditions have improved,

The mountains are still quite brown after our extremely dry summer, but doing better after a recent week of cooler temperatures and rain.

Happy Thanksgiving Saturday.

    1. I agree. The cooler air doesn’t hold as much moisture and there’s usually a reduction in pollution, too. October can be such a stunner and yes, yesterday was one of the most gorgeous days I’ve seen. Cheers.

  1. A lovely place to look at while you have your meal. Looks a lovely perfect day.
The warmer temperatures we have been experiencing over here is not what we usually get for that time of the year. But I don’t think our will last much longer either.

    1. It was a very lovely day, one of the best I’ve ever experienced. Temperatures here in this valley are elevated for this time of year but not extreme. Other parts of this big country are definitely getting much warmer than usual weather. Cheers.

  2. These warm October days are a gift we should not refuse. A beautiful sight and site for an outdoor meal Lynette. A gorgeous weekend here as well. +23 is not common at this time of year. Happy Thanksgiving. Allan

    1. Thank you, Allan. I agree. These days are precious right now and are just so beautiful, almost ethereally so. We’re expecting a high of 23-25 today and tomorrow. Yes, 18 or 19 is more usual, but this year has been unpredictable and unusual in so many ways. I guess we need to get more used to that.

    1. I couldn’t agree more, Anneli. They are so gorgeous and precious.

A good satellite photo really shows how the area occupied by Penticton is the product of an ancient (and very huge) landslide. Cheers.

  3. Incredible photos, so nice blue colors and summer feeling! You have had really nice weekend weather. Enjoy! In Finland it’s now +5 C and 33 m/s hard wind. Not nice at all, even I love storm.

    1. Thank you very much. 🙂 I very much understand about those windy and cold temperatures. Until recently, I worked in Canada’s subarctic north and have frequently experienced the early onset of winter and cold down to -45C.
The area I live in now is much more temperate; it doesn’t get very cold or snowy and autumn can be very, very lovely. Thank you again; cheers.

  4. Glad to hear you had warm enough weather to eat outside. Looks like a lovely spot to enjoy a bite to eat and admire the views. We had fabulous weather earlier in the week, but it got a bit chilly over the weekend, so much so that we had to turn our heat on.

    1. You have really had some serious temperature changes! We have avoided turning on the air since last month but our windows are open most of the time and that’s nice. Sitting outside has been glorious; but today we are very cloudy and it’s supposed to rain. Getting more rain isn’t a bad thing either though.
