The ducks have been happily inhabiting their creek since the spring run-off subsided back in June.

Because of our drought it has become quite low, so the ducks are now camping out on a little creek island.

Some still like the embankment though, where they’re more likely to get such treats as peas or lettuce which are nutritionally sound choices for them (not bread or crackers).
Have a ducky Thursday.
The ducks look quite content!

They came through the smoky skies and seem to be doing well. People leave them lettuce and other veggies; they’re well fed because they don’t eat all of it!

There’s so much suffering from climate change. I’m glad they’re doing well at the moment.

Agreed. They apparently instinctively knew to hunker down in the creek bottom during the day (smoke rises during the day but falls at night) and on the creek bank at night.
The animals have been massively affected by the fires. We have a sanctuary here that’s taking in animals (bears and deer in particular) with burns and nursing them back to health.

That’s just heartbreaking.

Yes, it is. At least the fires in our area are mostly out.

Ducks are so much less imposing and shall we say messy than the geese. They just go about the job of being a duck. Happy Thursday Lynette. Allan

Thanks, Allan. For sure. The geese droppings are much worse than the ducks, but at least they are only around the lakes and creek until their goslings are able to fly. Good thing we don’t have swans. Very pretty, but much larger birds and very aggressive. Years ago when I lived in Germany, one tried to attack my four-year old son. I had to pick up a tree branch to chase it off!

They remind me of teenagers having a party at the gravel pit.

You don’t have to duck for cover
Even if you’re not a duck lover,
Because, unlike you and I,
They wouldn’t hurt a fly!

That’s great! 😁 They sure don’t.

I can see why they’d continue to stay here

They love it there. Altogether there’s probably about 40 of them!
