We recently visited Vancouver. The weather was thankfully cooler and somewhat showery, a very welcome respite from the hot, dry conditions and forest-fire-propelling drought.

It was good to see the clouds clinging to the mountain sides and a moisture-laden canopy.
Happy Friday.
I’ll take the cooler weather, even with some rain, over the heat. Hope you enjoyed your time in Vancouver. Have a wonderful weekend. Linda

We did a day trip for some sho pping but the drive is through some absolutely gorgeous country. Agreed – I like summer and sunny weather but not when it’s really hot out. I find that the older I get, the less able I am to just ignore the heat and keep going. I used to live in Phoenix but I think I would find the heat difficult now. Cheers.

Thank you very much. M was driving which gave me a chance to admire the mountains and the mist and cloud moving around them. We just did a day trip but are planning a longer visit for the autumn.

Glad you managed to visit Vancouver. Despite the showers I think they are still in a drought situation. Hope they get some rain in the rainforest soon. Happy Friday Lynette. Allan

Thanks, Allan. We did a day trip as there was some shopping we needed to do, but the drive in on highway 3 was gorgeous. The sun emerged around noon and it was very clear how dry and heat-stressed everything is. We have some of that here but I think we’ve actually had more rain (in short showers) through the summer than the coast has had. Crazy.

Vancouver is one of the places on my list that I’ve always wanted to visit, but likely won’t (for reasons too long to explain). I never say never, but it’s not likely. 😕 How far is Vancouver from where you live now?

Vancouver is 3.5 driving hours away, but through some of the most beautiful country; mountains and huge forests. We did a day trip as there was some shopping we wanted to do. Agreed – never say never. I hope you do get the opportunity. 🙂

Typical mountain mist/clouds for this area.

One day of rain – a good one – and now cloud/sun “can’t make up its mind” days.

Good to hear, especially that it was a good one! We’re supposed to be very hot again next week – mid to high 30s.

There were some showers but hard to tell how widespread they were. Definitely welcome!

Low-lying clouds and/or fog are always a delight and especially after coming from hot droughted conditions. Glad you were able to get away for a bit.

Thank you very much, Steve. It has been very hot here with smoke from a nearby forest fire but after some showers during the week the fire is now classified as “held.” It was great to have a respite but I understand that next week is supposed to be very hot again. Cheers.

Collective human existence is [at least to me] still basically analogous to a cafeteria lineup consisting of diversely societally represented people, all adamantly arguing over which identifiable person should be at the front and, conversely, at the back of the line.
Many of them further fight over to whom amongst them should go the last piece of quality pie and how much they should have to pay for it — all the while the interstellar spaceship on which they’re all permanently confined, owned and operated by (besides the wealthiest passengers) the fossil fuel industry, is on fire and toxifying at locations not normally investigated.
As a species, we can be so heavily preoccupied with our own individual little worlds, however overwhelming to us, that we will miss the biggest of crucial pictures.
Astronauts typically express awe and even love for the beautiful Earth below while they’re in orbit. I wonder how they feel when seeing the immense consequential pollution from raging massive forest/brush fires, like the ones consuming Canadian forests for many weeks now, that are basically due to human-caused global warming?
And if a large portion of the planet’s most freely-polluting corporate CEOs, governing leaders and over-consuming/disposing individuals rocketed far enough above the earth for a day’s (or more) orbit, while looking down, would have a sufficiently profound effect on them to change their political/financial support of, most notably, the fossil fuel industry?

Thank you very much for your thoughtful comment. Agreed. Lots of people are either in denial or don’t care (especially the ones making the money).

Yes. Also, due to the Only If It’s In My Own Back Yard mindset, the prevailing collective attitude, however implicit or subconscious, basically follows: ‘Why should I care — my family is immediately alright?’ or ‘What’s in it for me, the taxpayer?’
While some people will justify it as a normal thus moral human evolutionary function, the self-serving OIIIMOBY can debilitate social progress, even when such progress is so desperately needed — notably, trying to moderate manmade global warming thus extreme weather events.
And it seems this distinct form of societal penny-wisdom but pound-foolishness is a very unfortunate human characteristic that’s likely with us to stay.

Thank you very much for your comments. Definitely. I sometimes think that we’re selecting ourselves for extinction and the planet will carry on without us as it did after the last dinosaur.
