We live near the creek that runs through Penticton, and although its name actually is “Penticton Creek,” it definitely behaves and looks more like a river at times.

Our resident mallard duck flock loves this creek and lives near the outflow end where it empties into Okanagan Lake. Everyone loves them, feeds them and fusses over them. They’ve definitely found themselves a good gig!
And I live near a river that’s usually more like a creek. 🙂 Ordinarily, by this time of year our brooks are almost dry with more rocks and boulders than water but not this year.

That’s funny. 🙂 This year the creek came close to spilling its banks – it was very full and moving at a good clip. The poor ducks didn’t know what to do or where to go. Yes, I noted that you seem to have had a lot of rain. We seem getting by and avoiding fires with our quick rain showers.

Avoiding the fires is a big deal. Hope it remains that way.

Thanks, Steve. The forest fires in Canada this spring and summer are record-setting, and by a large margin. So far, we have fortunately been avoiding them.

Ripples and patterns on water can give such stunning photos, not to mention the perfect habitat for ducks. Have a great Friday Lynette. Allan

Thanks, Allan. These ducks are really more like community pets. The city feeds them if it gets cold in the winter and everyone fusses over them. They really have a pretty good situation here. Cheers.

All kinds of life to see by the water.

That’s very true. I do like to watch the interactions between the Canada geese and the ducks. The ducks are so placid and the geese so grumpy, but they do get along for the most part.

So that’s where ducks nap!

Yes. 🙂 It’s fun to sometimes see them standing on one leg, swaying in the water, totally sound asleep. Other times they will crouch instead. Cheers.

I love the sound of a bubbling creek. We have one a few blocks away, and it empties into the river, which is a couple miles away. I never had that in Florida, and the Gulf was 50 miles away. I like this area where I live now. Though I’d love to live near mountains like you. I’m glad you’re able to enjoy your home and neighborhood.

Thank you very much, Lori. The Arctic and subarctic are beautiful, but after six winters there, I’m happy to be home. It’s such a walkable neighbourhood and so beautiful, too. Good to hear that you’re much happier in your present location. I remember some of what you wrote about Florida. Isn’t it great to be near a creek?

Looks very tranquil now; I imagine the ducks are quite happy.

They are very happy. The creek will be tranquil until next year’s spring run-off, so they have months of enjoyment ahead of them. 🙂

Nice to see in all its stages. The last photo looks most like what I imagine a creek to be 😊

Thank you very much. 🙂 I agree that the last picture is more creek-like. It will continue to look like that until next year’s spring run-off. Cheers.

It’s neat to see how the creek changes throughout the year. Looks like a peaceful and scenic spot.

This creek is lovely and there are paths or trails next to much of it as it passes through the city. I love the sound of it, especially on a hot day. Yesterday it was 37C and walking near it had the effect of sounding cooler!
