Activities on the frozen lake are a normal component of winter life in Yellowknife.

Driving, snowmobiling, fishing and living on an ice lake are all experiences very unique to the north.
Happy weekend!

I imagine living in the North is a very unique experience in general. Despite the cold and harsh conditions, I love that many people there still go outdoors.

Despite the cold there are a lot of outside activities. If you dress appropriately, you should be fine, even if the temperatures are -45C, but it also takes a certain mindset, too, a way of just taking the weather in stride.

I remember the views from Bush Pilot’s Monument. Looks like a lovely Northern day Lynette. Stay warm. Allan

It was beautiful with some ice fog, but mostly quite sunny. Thanks, Allan, you too.

Thank you very much, Cindy. I’ve become very used to it, but by southern standards it’s unusual!

This is amazing. How long is the lake frozen this way?

It’s frozen deeply enough for safety from about January to end of March. It even becomes safe enough to land aircraft on it. Thanks for stopping by and commenting. 🙂

No. There’s quite a high embankment above the lake at that spot, and I was standing there. Yes, it was cold, but not as cold as this morning. -40C (-40F). 🥶
